One Mind: How Our Individual Mind Is Part of a Greater Consciousness and Why It Matters
£12.30
In One Mind, New York Times bestselling author Larry Dossey, MD, proposes an inspiring view of consciousness that may reshape our destiny. Dossey’s premise is that all individual minds are part of an infinite, collective dimension of consciousness he calls the One Mind. This state – which we can all access – explains phenomena as diverse as epiphanies, creative breakthroughs, premonitions of danger or disaster, near-death experiences, communication with other species and with the dead, reincarnation, the movement of herds, flocks and schools and remote healing.
Dossey presents his theory in easily digestible, bite-sized examples. Through engaging stories, fascinating research and brilliant insights from great thinkers throughout history, readers will explore the outer reaches of human consciousness, discover a new way to interpret the great mysteries of our experience, and learn how to develop the empathy necessary to inspire more love, peace and collective awareness. The result is a rich new understanding of what it means to be human and a renewed hope that we can successfully confront the challenges we face at this crossroads in human history.
Even before publication One Mind has drawn praise from the finest minds of our time. It has been heralded as ‘landmark’, ‘a brilliant synthesis’, a ‘magnum opus’, a ‘feast’ of ideas, ‘compelling’, ‘gripping’ and ‘a major shift in our understanding of consciousness’.

Judging by the exuberant reviews by Dossey’s friends and fellow writers in the One Mind camp, filling four crammed pages at front of the book, this is just about the greatest thing since the Bible. Actual reading, however, does not bear this out. Composed mostly of case stories (some would say anecdotes) and references to other peoples’ thinking and work, this is a fairly easy read, informative and entertaining, and the obvious warmth and kindheartedness of the author cannot help but charm you. I doubt that the book will convince a single sceptic, though, but to believers (such as myself) of the One Mind concept in its many different guises, this is a highly pleasurable read, heavily annotated for optional further reading. A very nice read, but a major event, no.
(Note: The book (my version is the Hay House paperback) is set in an obnoxious typography (Verdana?) that may look OK on a small computer screen or on inlays for prescription medicine, but should NEVER be used in a book meant to be read with something like aesthetic pleasure).

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would recommend it to all those interested in scientific proof behind the oneness of all conscience. I would say however that in some ways, we seem to still be at the level of trying to prove that we are all one. What about those of us who know it already and don’t need more convincing? What would the next level be? Perhaps the author, or maybe other authors could focus on this next step. A wonderful read, nevertheless.

This book is rather like a reference documenting many mentions, research and publications on the idea of Quantum Consciousness existing. An excellent intro into the concept of One Mind, an organising, evolving process, present since the Big bang or before. (And we are hard-wired in!)

This book is an excellent overview of work that is now being done in the area of Consciousness. Science is not exactly catching up with the Ancient Wisdom, but at least it is heading, slowly, in the right direction. Larry Dossey though, is spot on and his writing is clear and easily understood. The book is very interesting. We don’t need to be ‘saved’, we need to wake up! This book my be a start. Thank you.

The message of this book, is that we are all part of One Mind, therefore interconnected at all levels. Dossey’s arguments are compelling, fully evidenced and referenced, and the perspective of the nature of reality he puts forward is very persuasive. His writing style is accessible, fluid and above all, engaging. I felt I could not put it down until I got to the end. I think it is a great read, and may open people’s eyes to a more meaningful way of understanding life and living!

So good to read an author who takes a comprehensive and balanced approach to spirituality. Highly recommended especially if you are feeling confused

…. well, to me, anyway!
This is an excellent book stating, what to me, seems the most obvious of things, that consciousness is all around us, filtered by our brains and that we all belong to the ONE MIND, which is what has been referred to over the millenia, as God, the Supreme Being, etc., etc.
It is a book that, if read by everyone, would radically alter many closed minds.

This is a brilliant overview of all the many aspects of life experiences that science cannot explain. Yet Dr Dossey has cleverly collected research carried out by eminent scientists and psychoanalysts over the past two centuries, together with many anecdotes of individuals’ personal experiences of contact with the ONE MIND. Consciousness comes before being. Well worth reading again!
