Orthodoxy and the Religion of the Future
£8.50
ORTHODOXY AND THE RELIGION OF THE FUTURE examines in eight chapters these and similar questions facing Christians in the contemporary world. The religious phenomena of today are symptoms of a “new religious consciousness” that is preparing the world religion of the future. Phenomena such as Yoga, Zen, Tantra, Transcendental Meditation, Maharaj-ji, Hare Krishna, UFOs, the Charismatic Movement and Jonestown are presented in contrast to the Orthodox Patristic standard of spiritual life, without the understanding of which, in the coming time of antichrist, it will scarcely be possible for Christians to be saved.
This work is a concise and unequivocal Orthodox statement on contemporary trends; its urgent message rings loud and clear. Viewed from a foundation based in Patristic teachings, the spiritual movements of the day are clearly various spiritual deceptions that have existed since the beginning of the Church, rather than the achievements of a new religious consciousness. Addressing soberly and directly the trends of pseudo-spirituality which loom enticingly today, ORTHODOXY AND THE RELIGION OF THE FUTURE provides a beacon of discernment in these times of widespread spiritual deception. The book examines a broad spectrum of issues facing modern Christians–each from the perspective of the early Church Fathers. As the “New Age” is becoming a household concept and is moving into wider acceptance by mainstream society, the “new religious consciousness” can be seen progressing precisely along the lines described by the late Fr. Seraphim

Incredible. I had to take some deep breaths after finishing this. I defy anybody even vaguely interested in Christianity to not be moved by this. I will say this, it is probably impossible to not feel righteous anger after reading this book. Prophetic. This is one of those books that changes your life, or at least has the potential to.

Please read this prescient information by Fr Seraphim and subsequent updates.
It fully explains the murderous chaos of today’s world.

It is a tragedy that Fr Rose died so young and did not live to see how his warnings have developed. His analysis of pagan, mediumistic and New Age is spot on and almost before its time. By contrast his analysis of so called Charismatic developments while rightly sounding cautions and telling us to test the spirits, is rather OTT. Yes there was indeed much about the so called Toronto Blessing which was questionable. I was partly swept into it and drew back once it was clear that testing the spirits was not welcomed , and the measure of its value became the weird and questionable experiences and manifestations more than changed lives . I would add that the 2008 Lakeland Revival was even more questionable. At times he seems to suggest the only source of truth lies in certain dead saints and those who like himself, live an ascetic life. Indeed the later editors of the epilogues and additions seem to deny the simplicity of Joel’s prophecy, used by St Peter on Pentecost. “All flesh” means just that, all flesh. All of us. All the saints – saints being as Scripture shows all the people of God, whether cannonised (for good reasons) or not. Testing the spirits, against the witness of Holy Scripture, and that includes testing traditions from our forefathers who were as much fallen humanity as we are, is a ministry for all of us. I totally agree that there is a great danger of absorbing non Christian faiths in the proper attempts to maintain good relations with them, and pursue common social and environmental concerns. But to live in respect for each other is more Christian than going to Crusades! It does not remove the call to make disciples. And of course yet again is the childish invective against those branches of Christ’s church which do not follow Eastern Orthodoxy. He seems to be quenching the Spirit by failing to recognise what God is doing in our time. He will always be true to his Living Word, Christ, revealed in the written Word , Holy Scripture. Who are any of us to limit His actions?
So an important book to read, but do wear filtered specs when doing so. There is some brilliant writing among the parts which are best forgotten.

More pertinent today than it was even when it was written. This book gives insight into the thinking that surrounds us today and the recognition that at its core it is anti christ. The thinking influenced and directed by the Prince of lies which seeks to destroy the message of Hope found in Christ. It is a must read

Amazing book, an eye opener. I understand that it can be painful to read for new agers, occultists, eccumenists and others. A reviewer writes: “Aquinas discussed such creatures but noted that a purely spiritual creature was impossible and that demons and angels were to be understood as creatures that are at various gradations of material and spiritual content”. I am afraid that the Holy Fathers have written about this “fine material” about a thousand years earlier than Aquinas. Another reviewer is discontent because he thinks that in the book prevails the idea that followers of other religions are only feeding their egos. It is because materialism is what all other religions preach : how to achieve a highest state of consciousness in order to acquire wealth in this lifetime and how to enjoy a materialistic life.

Seraphim saw and put into words in 1975 what and where our world would be heading today. A great and powerful warning to the secular world and a call for all towards the one, true and Holy Apostolic faith.

An absolute brilliant insight into what is really happening in this world. There is a spiritual war between God and the devil going on at the moment and people need to be aware of the truth regarding other religions, their heresies and their lies. These other new age religions are in line with the new world order and have nothing to do with peace and harmony that we perceive them to be. They are trying to take Christians away from the true faith. May God help us all!
