“A gutsy, candid, and compelling story. It speaks volumes.” —School Library Journal (starred review)
“Unflinching and realistic.” —KirkusReviews (starred review)
From award-winning author Sharon Draper comes a story that will forever change how we all look at anyone with a disability, perfect for fans of RJ Palacio’s Wonder.
Eleven-year-old Melody is not like most people. She can’t walk. She can’t talk. She can’t write. All because she has cerebral palsy. But she also has a photographic memory; she can remember every detail of everything she has ever experienced. She’s the smartest kid in her whole school, but NO ONE knows it. Most people—her teachers, her doctors, her classmates—dismiss her as mentally challenged because she can’t tell them otherwise. But Melody refuses to be defined by her disability. And she’s determined to let everyone know it…somehow.

This book is Amazing because of the way it is written. It describes like you are in Melody’s shoes and is so amazing. My favourite part was when the quiz was going on and the reader could answer to. Interacting with the audience is the perfect way to enrage a reader. I really wanted to read on but needed to go to bed. This went on for the past days I have been reading it however it was still FANTASTIC!

I loved this book quite emotional but amazing. It is my favourite book and I cannot wait for the next one to come out. I read it at the age of eleven.

This is an excellent book! My Year 6 students read it every year as part of a unit of study about disability and they love it. It teaches a valuable lesson about how people with disabilities can be viewed and treated, even by those who should know better, and it encourages empathy and understanding.

I started reading this yesterday as quick read and to try getting myself back into reading itself. I am much older then the age is given but I never let that bother me because I could not read until I was 13, to me it’s like reliving my childhood dream being able to read stories. Anyway back to the book….
It was such an easy read and pleasant but it also had quite a series topic involved into the story, from an adult/teen prospective it is an eye opener to a world I never knew about. Melody the main character has a condition were she can not move or speak and is classed by the doctors “retard” but she has a photographic memory and is very smart.
You travel with her for a period of her life and she speaks all about the feelings and troubles of not being able to voice or even scream in frustration. It is a journey with a lots of laughter and tears.
Great quick read for adults and teens with a serious topic and great for children to understand about bullying and learning not to judge a book by it cover.

I loved this book because it really put things into perspective on how difficulty challenging and frustrating it is for a young person with that condition. A mind blowing read that will not leave your hands till it has ended. Although emotional at some points a very uplifting read, similar to Wonder by R.J. Palacio, (which I would recommend) great book, 4.5 stars

One of the best novels I have read for a very long time. Gives a real insight into the lives of people with difficulties. Gives one a sense of great empathy for the individual and their carers.

I looked through all the books on the kindle fire and I decided I didn’t want to read them so I asked my mother to look for a dramatic kids novel and the next day she showed me this book.It was perfect for me and written in a style witch makes you want to scream when something goes wrong and smile when something nice happens.
This dramatic ,sad tale is moving and powerful a great read
