Over My Dead Body’ is the fourth in Jeffrey Archer’s series of crime/legal thrillers featuring Detective William Warwick. After recently reading Book 6, I went back to the start of the series. As each book builds on the events of the previous ones, I would recommend it best to read them in order.
It’s 1988 and William Warwick has been promoted to Chief Detective Inspector, the youngest in the history of the Metropolitan Police. Under the direction of Commander Hawksby, Warwick is leading the new Unsolved Murder Unit. Meanwhile the hunt for the elusive Miles Faulkner continues ….
Again, a satisfying crime thriller that I found hard to put down. I will be completing the series to date by moving on to the royally themed Book 5, ‘Next in Line’, in the near future.

Another good book in the series but I couldn’t understand why the character James was in it. He added nothing to the overall plot and the dialogues between him and William were quite boring and went on too long. Also puzzling was having to read word for word in some chapters of a children’s story William read to his kids. A bit of padding out maybe? Shame.

William Warwick now a DCI is in charge of an unsolved murder unit dealing with cold cases. This is to catch the criminals who think they got away with murder. In order to do so he has to think like a criminal.
William and his wife are having a rare holiday on a luxury liner at someone else’s expense when he comes across a rich family whose grandson is very much like a young William with a curious mind. When the unthinkable happens William finds himself investigating a tragedy…
In the background his arch nemesis Miles Faulkner an escaped convict was pronounced dead. Is it the end of the matter?
There are so many people who cannot be trusted as there are many on the payroll of an unscrupulous QC who loves to line his pockets. His number one client being Miles Faulkner.
It is a tangled web as William finds himself in the hot seat trying to figure out all the parts. William also finds himself trying to keep tabs on his ex-uncover policeman brought in to assist him as his second in command. He is not just any policeman he is ex military with a special set of skills but can he be tamed when he experiences a horrific personal tragedy, what will he do about it and can he fool William when he goes off the radar to exact revenge

May be I have grown up. The pace is relentless along. The revenge is satisfactory. I think it ends too abruptly . This a problem books. In series can have.. Why do I expect Archer to write a perfect book? He never has. He is not that kind of writer . I did enjoy the pace nonetheless. I enjoyed the book, but!
