I came across this book whilst dealing with the loss of my beloved cat, who we recently lost at a young age. The grief of losing a pet that you love dearly can be quite overwhelming, and not something that everybody can understand. I highly recommend this book by Jackie Weaver. It is beautifully written and deals with so many of the emotions that may accompany the loss of a pet, as well as giving practical advice on how to deal with this, and tips on how to be prepared in advance, emotionally and practically, for the future loss of pets. Jackie also shares her own personal stories in the book which are extremely touching.

This book absolutely touched my soul, it is the most helpful & empathetic book I have ever read. Jackie gives so much practical & soothing advice to help pet owners come to terms with losing a beloved pet…I was both inspired & helped at the same time. Its a MUST for all pet owners- highly recommended.

Having just lost our beautiful cat 6 days ago after having him 11 years i am undecided if this book has helped. I am currently in a state of perpetual grief and crying constantly. I hoped this book would give me some clarity of how to move forward. However in one part of the book the author goes on about the need to question your vets diagnosis as you know your pet better than anyone, and a comment also about vets being big corporations and all about money. This has made me worry i didn’t ask more questions about my cats deterioration and if there was anything they could do to save him. In the end we found out our cat had severe anemia and a tumour was discovered in his abdomen which was cancer. Our vet told us the best thing would be to let him go. Reading this book just made me feel we had done the wrong thing putting him to sleep. But i know deep down he couldn’t be saved. The book may help in other ways but i am not sure it has helped me really.

Having had to have my beloved dog put to sleep, I was searching for guidance and reassurance. I found Jackie’s book very helpful, with lots of true life stories of people and their animals. I found it especially relevant when she talks about replacing sad and negative pictures and episodes in an animal’s life with the happy memories that we shared. I would recommend this book for anyone who’s lost their pet companion.

Having lost my beloved labrador recently and experiencing such deep physical pain this book has been very repairing. My only regret is the vet bashing – as a vet myself I see the otherside – vets are easy to knock because they’re running private businesses but most of us have feelings too and are here for the better of the pets.
Thank you for all the techniques to cope…..I miss her every day ❤️

I bought this book after losing my much-loved dog unexpectedly and found it a great comfort. However, I do wish I’d discovered it years ago, as I think I would have been better prepared for when the worst happened. Its full of practical tips on how to deal with the loss of a pet, which I found very useful. I’d recommend it to anyone who loves their pet and fears the day that they will lose them, and of course to anyone experiencing that loss right now.
