This is a real treat and a source of much valuable information for anybody interested in photography. I received it as a birthday present and it has pride of place on my coffee table. It covers both biographical and technical subjects in some depth, and much else besides. This is not a how-to book, but will provide much pleasure if you enjoy browsing. Highly recommended.

This is an amazingly well-produced book. Not just superb photos but a genuinely well-researched text… or texts. The way the information has been divided up makes for superb coverage: almost every important figuere in the history gets a page to themselves AND the coverage goes really wide: there is a wonderful diversity in the coverage. The technical developments and developments in the wider culture are well-integrated. Many of the most famous individual photos are given their own space and their story told. This really is an ingenious treatment of the history of photography. I have copies of all of the competition on my shelves. This is in a class of its own.

I bought this book as a gift and sadly it was too late to return it.
It’s third item I ordered on Amazon that arrived damaged.
Lovely book but looked second hand when arrived.
Amazon should think about packaging !

Ordered as a complement to the DK’s “Art: The Definitive Visual Guide”, met my expectations completely. It is quite comprehensive and the quality is very good.
