Bought this for my dad who wanted to learn to play the piano now he has retired. He loves the step by step tuition and the videos which explain things in plain English. He also likes the fact that you can keep going back to pages to practice techniques more. He is learning to read music as well as the coordination required and is hooked as he practices a few times a week. He hasn’t got to the end of it yet but has said that he would consider one of the other books in the series when he gets to the end of this one.

I can follow the book as it leads me carefully towards competence. Of course, every page needs a lot of practice, especially since I am physically a slow learner, but the book helps me enjoy it and I’ve never felt like giving up and never felt daunted. A very helpful book

I had a few lessons when I was in infant school then maybe about ten in highschool, but I wasn’t aloud to continue. So, now years later, I am suffering with mental health conditions and I read that playing an instrument can help. I decided to get a piano and this book and start again. 100% agree it helps with mental health. This book is so clear and easy to understand. I will be ordering the second book very soon. In a matter of weeks I have found myself back to the standard I was and improving rapidly. I would recommend this book to anyone refreshing or just starting out, I had never played left hand of sharps and flats before now and they are coming to me very easily with this clearly laid out book.

A very good book for beginners. Each page has nice large print ,so easy to read and follow. The videos, which you link up to on an appropriate device, are good and help you see the actual piano and what to do. What is good is that you can learn at your own pace and watch the videos as many times as you like. I would recommend this book for adults.

The instruction in this book & streaming lessons combination is very condescending. It’s intended for adults but the instructor treats you like a child.

Consider the very first video, where the author/instructor spends a few minutes going through how the fingers are numbered. It’s painful to watch, really, because it’s incredibly repetitive for something so extraordinarily simple. The subsequent videos have a similar tone.

Having said that, there are a few good things in the book, primarily that the lessons, if you can call them that, are structured in a useful way: the exercises focus first on 2-note songs, then 3-note songs, and so on.

All in all, a very disappointing purchase in my opinion, better suited for a toddler.

The actual sale of the item was faultless. But the book itself I couldn’t get on with. It shows the finger numbers quite late into the book, so a lot of the time I found myself looking at that and not the notes

It’s a nice book for the adult with a lot of theory as well as practice songs. Really recommend for adults who want to start learning the piano on their own. Just a little bit recommend that you need to watch more youtube video about the basic skill for more information about how to play piano such as hand placement, right position, etc. Really recommends. I have more than 3 years of experience of teaching piano for adults and see that a nice book for the beginner as well, not only for adults but can recommend people more than 17 years old want to play the piano as well.

I’m teaching myself piano having not had lessons for about 10 years since I was little. It starts off super easy and gradually gets harder… I play other instruments so I could read sheet music before starting this but not the bass clef, takes some getting used to but just persist and it does get easier! Only complaint is that the finger numbers are written on the note – it’s useful to start off with but I sometimes find myself drawn to reading that instead of processing what note it is ???? Overall, I’d say it’s a great book for beginner and intermediate players alike, and the free video lessons are a bonus too.
