Making your own pickles and ferments at home may have seen out of reach for many reasons; however, I’m here to tell you that it’s not as difficult as it seems. I used to visit my grandma on her farm when I was a kid, and that’s where I first learned about pickling and fermenting. Pickling and preserving produce from her farm and garden are among my first memories. I have retained my grandmother’s love for pickling and fermenting and have continued doing this as an adult, and it’s a lovely and delicious way to preserve the harvest from my homestead. I have continued to experiment with different recipes and have expanded my knowledge from reading cookbooks, watching cooking shows from the world’s greatest chefs, and trying recipes I’ve found on the Internet, and all this combined has allowed me to develop my own recipes that I’ve tweaked and honed until I’m 100% happy with how they taste.
I want to show people how easy it is to fill your pantry with tasty homemade dill pickles, fermented tomatoes, and sauerkraut. With this book, you can save yourself time and energy by following all of the tips, tricks, and advice you’ll find within. Gain meaningful knowledge in the step-by-step, easy-to-follow chapters, and use this book as a reference to overcome any obstacles you might face along the way.

I am amazed by the wide range of experience of the author in the subject. The book talks about literally all kinds of pickling and fermenting you can think of. The book begins with the basic knowledge on the subject, the general know-how. Then comes chapter by chapter all kinds of recipes. Including quick pickles, vegetables pickles, condiments, meat, beverages, alcohol and more. Some of those include some clearly home made pickles picture which I do enjoy a lot.
Homemade fermenting food seems very far and difficult for me. The author provides a very detailed recipes and step by step instructions. You can feel that the author has real experience on the subjects reading the details the author provides. I enjoy very much reading the book and may try some recipes, though some of them are quite complicated and I am not sure if I am up to doing it! So start with the simple ones, and it is also very healthy to eat them too. If you are looking for a book to learn about home made pickles, this can be a very comprehensive guide.

This is an honest review based on an ARC of the book. I jumped at the chance at reading this book as I’d scoured Kindle Unlimited for books on Hydroponics and Max’s book was head and shoulders above the rest covering all topics a beginner would need including growing tips (not just stopping at the equipment as most seemed to do.) Saying yes to Pickling & Fermenting for Beginners was really a no brainer.
And I’m glad to say it’s just as good, if not better. Max covers the basics including tools, but pares it down to just what you need (no need to go to great expense to get started) and then includes the dos and don’ts of utilising certain combinations. The recipes are in easy to follow sections themed on pickling or fermenting and also the types of produce you wish to use.
This isn’t a recipe book, but it also *is* a recipe book because there’s all the details on how to go about preparing the produce, what to use and when, the equipment, and then the wonderful details of how some of the recipes have come about.
What really sells it, though, is how easy Max makes it. I’m ok with pickles but fermenting seemed way too hard. Max makes it oh so easy. Try it! You’ll love it!
