I bought this book after attending one of Fiona’s on line tutorials, she has a keen interest in helping adult musicians whether beginner or advanced to gear their practise to be more effective. As adults it is common to just pick up a new piece of music, play it through a few times then have to correct all those little errors that creep in , rhythm, intonation or whatever. I found it useful that Fiona provided an audio link after purchase that I can listen to. There are a few chapters to get through which outline the concept and the difference in adults to children when it comes to learning an instrument or new pieces of music and it is worth taking time to follow the suggestions and to SLOW DOWN. I say that as a an adult musician who plays in orchestras and have to learn many new pieces a year. The on line Facebook group is also helpful for discussion or to ask questions.

already it has helped me put a name to an insecure feeling i’ve had for many years, which has been a terrible hinderance when live performing. I’m now addressing this with positive results using Fiona’s technique’s. I have also acquired a strong ‘Focus technique’, my attention is all on playing music now and nothing else. Fiona’s book has also given me an amazing learning routine that optimise’s your learning sessions in a most effective way, giving you much faster results. I’m finding this book super helpful and inspirational and always has a place beside my piano keyboard.

I like the colourful illustrations and quotes from students that bring the text alive and help to make the reader feel part of the learning process. To be a student and find yourself in your tutor’s book, such acknowledgement of the part they play in their and others learning.

The book is packed full of progressive practical advice and tips, including games, for making playing music more meaningful, fun and delightful.

The added big bonus is being able to download the book and hear Fiona reading it to you in a straightforward, clear and encouraging voice.

Nothing is better and thank you so much to Fiona for all the amazing amount of your work and experience put into making this book come alive.

    Hi Fiona,

I am half way through your great book and its got me thinking again !! I realise that I am AGAIN ‘going through the motions’ with my playing. Zoom sessions have made me

very lazy and downright sloppy in my playing. This is because only myself hear what I play so if I make a mistake or come to a difficult chord fingering I just miss it out !

Most of my playing is done via chord strumming (in both my groups) but I really want to be able to play chord melody solo and I am far away from that skill at this time. After

starting your book I realise that the base I have is not sufficient to build on so I am starting from the very basics in an attempt to get the basics right. I have also dug out my

practice log and started using it again.I intend to restart using the metronome and clapping again ! I am finding the book very motivational and thank you for writing it. Will be in

touch again in the new year meanwhile I wish you and

yours every happiness throughout the festive season.

    Kind regards

    Pete
