This is an excellent book (written by a leading Endocrinologist) that shows the relationship between vitamin D deficiency and a number of health problems. Whilst covering a fairly technical subject, it is none the less easy to read and includes extensive references. There is much I learned from reading the “Power of Vitamin D” and I would recommend it.

This is an excellent review how vitamin D is involved in absorption of calcium from the gut and it works in concert with vitamin k2 and interplay with parathyroid hormone in the blood and deposition of calcium in correct places such as bones and teeth along with vitamin k2
prevents calcification in arterys ,kidneys etc.

I bought this book hoping to enhance my knowledge of Vitamin D and its benefit in combating poor health. The chapter on nutrition is very basic advising readers to stay away from processed and high sugar foods. However, the book lost all credibility for me with the author stating that honey should be used as a sweetener “because each honey molecule consists of only glucose and therefore doesn’t require any breaking down in the intestines before its absorption into the blood.” This is blatantly incorrect as whilst honey does contain some glucose it most certainly is not ‘only glucose’. It is very high in fructose (the sugar he later tells the reader to avoid), as well as containing sucrose and maltose. If this fact is not known to the author then one has to question the remainder of the advice.

A very detailed, but very readable, account of why we should all be taking vitamin d supplements with higher doses than we might think. There is a lot of confusion and conflicting advice around this topic and the author provides much needed clarity.

What is stated here seems the Truth, which one may realise 20 years later. We probably always had a Pandemic of Low Vitamin D and it’s probably treated under different names till the end of our lives.

Very informative and clear. The facts are well referenced and clearly reliable. I was p[articularly interested in the fact that the scaremongering about the danger of sunlight had the effect to reduce the intake of the very important vitamin D from the effect of sunlight on the skin.
As a practicing naturist I have long been fascinated by the fact that the incidence of skin cancer amongst the sunseekers who regularly expose large areas of the skin to the sun, is so low. Most of them would gradualy expose the skin and very few suffer from sunburn because of that. My impression is that a sudden exposure like a holiday in the sun on a skin not used to it, can lead to severe sunburn and all the complications that go with it, including the start of a cancerous growth.

A brilliant book. So good to hear a doctor talk sense rather than endlessly pushing drugs with side effects. Only thing I’d add is ultraviolet lamps are cheap now plus many places do cheap sunbed sessions. Might be essential in colder countries. For diet I found my autoimmune disease to mean I am ultra intolerant to lots of things. I have to leave out dairy eggs gluten. So diet isn’t right for me. Look up any foods that cause inflammation. Perhaps get an Eliza intolerency test. From my experience I don’t think diet crucial but sunlight is. . Perhaps lack of vitamin d lead to ultra sensitivity. Sit beside an open door if too difficult to get out
