Only 60 pages in and already much more confident on being able to manage my own limited company accounts.

… it sometimes lacks clear definitions.

For example, debit and credit are never properly defined, there’s just a series of grids and examples.

The chapter on double entry is appalling in this regard.

Very clear to follow. Good examples. I needed a refresher reference book and this was just what I was looking for.

I have just started doing an AAT accounting course and thought this book might help. It was not helpful at all. I think it is aimed more towards someone who is running something like an eshop and needs to do their own accounts/bookkeeping but do not necessarily need to know everything about accounting. In my opinion it covers basic bookkeeping not accounting. It might be helpful for someone who knows absolutely nothing about accounts.

Well written with decent examples I am a small business filling in a tax return I purchased this instead of getting an accountant it was money well spent.

For years I have struggled to find a book to get to grasp with understanding accounts. If like me, you couldn’t understand the basic principles, I would suggest buy this book. You will not regret it. I cannot express how easy this book makes it for a novice to understand accounting principles. The book will not make you an accountant but will make you understand the jargon, speak the language and understand the relevance of accounts for personal or business purpose. Thank you very much, Alex Byrne for such an excellent book!
