Pride: The Story of the LGBTQ Equality Movement
£8.90£19.00 (-53%)
In June 1969, police raided New York gay bar the Stonewall Inn. Pride charts the events of that night, the days and nights of rioting that followed, the ensuing organization of local members of the community – and the 50 years since in which activists and ordinary people have dedicated their lives to reversing the global position.
Pride documents the milestones in the fight for LGBTQ equality, from the victories of early activists to the passing of legislation barring discrimination, and the gradual acceptance of the LGBTQ community in politics, sport, culture and the media. Rare images and documents cover the seminal moments, events and breakthroughs of the movement, while personal testimonies share the voices of key figures on a broad range of topics. Pride is a unique celebration of LGBTQ culture, an account of the ongoing challenges facing the community, and a testament to the equal rights that have been won for many as a result of the passion and determination of this mass movement.
A fully updated edition of Matthew Todd’s essential 2019 book, Pride is a celebration and a clarion call.

As a LGBT person myself, I felt it necessary to bridge the gap in my lack of LGBT history knowledge. This was a great starting point which gave me good insight in to different LGBT issues – large book, but easy enough to read and very interesting!

This beautiful large-format book is a work of art. Luxuriously illustrated throughout and printed on paper of the highest quality, this book is made to last a lifetime and more. To think that just a few decades ago no mainstream publisher, let alone Andre Deutsch, would touch the subject. Covering LGBT events, essentially from the 1950s to Prince William’s appearance on the cover of Attitude in 2016, and with contributions from David Furnish, Will Young, Maureen Duffy and others, this epoch defining book is destined to become a classic.

I read this after reading Matthew’s other book “Straight Jacket” which I would also recommend. This book gives a really clear and concise look back through the lgbtq+ movement and it’s history which is important for any member of the community to know and also those outside it too.

Really interesting about LGBTQ life and the history

Fascinating! I learnt a lot and it helped inform a presentation I was creating at the time, on the subject of pride month.

I concur with the other reviews in the quality of the content – excellent and very well written. I appear to be alone in having difficulty in reading the small, fairly fine Font in grey on off white coloured paper. The Notes for the illustrations are even smaller. My old eyes are working hard! It is worth the effort though.
