What I dislike, is that there’s no description of the synonym entries. e.g. “Shine” will have a short obvious description, then you have a few sentences, each using another similar kind of word (hyponym), with no description, just used in a sentence. e.g. “The gem is dazzling” .. with no explanation the a child what really dazzling means.

We bought this help our 6 year old to think about different words and with his writing skills during lockdown. He loved the idea of looking up words and finding alternatives. Although some words in here are a little to advanced for him right now. I think this book is for older children so I would definitely recommend for an 8+. The book is colourful and has many alternatives for differing contexts also.

My grand daughter apparently uses it a lot especially for her homework but also lives browsing it and looking at the pictures.

I brought this for my almost 8 year old daughter for help as suggested by her teacher. This is age appropriate for her, lay out is easy to use and will be suitable for the next few years. I’m hoping it aids to widen her vocabulary.

Our grandson, aged 6, asked for a dictionary as he’d used one at school and enjoyed it. This thesaurus came with it in a set and he enjoys reading this too. It’s easy-to-understand for all ages, including me!
