At first pass through the book I was left feeling this is not pub grub. On taking my time it struck me this really was gastro pub grub at a high level. Spoons it is not! What does this mean? Well it’s not for someone who wants a quick bite or someone who is not a confident cook. The recipes are relatively complex and can be ingredient rich, but with that will come a depth of taste and a satisfying meal. Anyone who likes cooking and is happy to spend time in the kitchen should be well rewarded with these recipes. Many of these recipes are new tastes to me and it will be interesting to cook them. Grab a glass of wine, put some tunes on and give this a try. Your tastebuds will be rewarded.

When I first got this book, I considered returning it as too simple. But in fact, there are a lot of tiny details that transform “pub food” into the Michelin-starred variety. The Nduja sausage rolls was excellent, so too the Lancashire hotpot with the perfectly identical potato sliced top.

I always think cookbooks are for inspiration, we can get basically any recipe on line for free. This book is full of inspirational treats. I can’t recommend it enough.

Good cook book, a little too many meals I won’t cook just not my cup of tea, otherwise there are some good recipes and look forward to trying them.

Comfort food recipes for entertaining at home. A few interesting new twists & some never-fail recipes for classics. If you are calorie counting this book is not one for you. I was pleased with it, I have many cookbooks & am a proficient cook. However, I think there is something for every cook in this book, but perhaps not beginners.

I have a good number of Tom Kerridge books. I love his style of food, he has a great personality and some of his recipes are my favourite dishes to cook at home. I do feel a little disappointed with this book though (as I was the last book too) and wonder if it is a problem of perhaps having too many of his recipes now. I have only cooked one recipe so far, the curry with saffron rice. I love a curry, have a number of books dedicated to currie,s but looked forward to trying a simple, Tom inspired recipe. I was not wowed by it though. It was OK and I guess it was like I might get from a pub (although the cheaper end pub). Yes, it is a ‘Pub Kitchen’ book but it is by Tom Kerridge so I thought may have been slightly elevated (like many of his dishes are). I will try a few more but maybe if you have a lot of Tom’s books, this one might not be for you, if you don’t (or a lot of cookbooks in general) then this may be a great purchase.

It’s just a great book. Well presented, some anecdotes to make you smile and recipes you will just want to sit and start on straight away. Interestingly no “starters” section, instead a delightful collection of snacks. If you are moving into a tapas style of meal then this is one for you. A couple of recipes re-worked from other books, but then the reminder is welcome. Thank you.
