“We were perfect together. Until we met.”
Misha
I can’t help but smile at the lyrics in her letter. She misses me.
In fifth grade, my teacher set us up with pen pals from a different school. Thinking I was a girl, with a name like Misha, the other teacher paired me up with her student, Ryen. My teacher, believing Ryen was a boy like me, agreed.
It didn’t take long for us to figure out the mistake. And in no time at all, we were arguing about everything. The best take-out pizza. Android vs. iPhone. Whether or not Eminem is the greatest rapper ever…
And that was the start. For the next seven years, it was us. Her letters are always on black paper with silver writing. Sometimes there’s one a week or three in a day, but I need them. She’s the only one who keeps me on track, talks me down, and accepts everything I am.
We only had three rules. No social media, no phone numbers, no pictures. We had a good thing going. Why ruin it?
Until I run across a photo of a girl online. Name’s Ryen, loves Gallo’s pizza, and worships her iPhone.
What are the chances? F*ck it. I need to meet her. I just don’t expect to hate what I find.
Ryen
He hasn’t written in three months. Something’s wrong. Did he die? Get arrested? Knowing Misha, neither would be a stretch.
Without him around, I’m going crazy. I need to know someone is listening.
It’s my own fault. I should’ve gotten his phone number or picture or something. He could be gone forever.
Or right under my nose, and I wouldn’t even know it.
*Punk 57 is a stand alone New Adult romance. It is suitable for ages 18+.

I saw this book everywhere on Tik Tok and Instagram and originally put it off because rarely does a tik tok recommended book fit my personal criteria of a good read.
Needing something to read to and from work, I found Punk 57 on kindle unlimited and needing something I didn’t particularly have to focus on or think a lot about, I downloaded it.
There’s a lot to be said about this book. Not all of it good and not all of it bad. But the one thing Punk 57 does is make you want to keep reading. Anytime I had to put the book down, I instantly wanted to pick it up again and find out what was going on.
The story is a simple friends to enemies to lovers story with a bit of mystery interwoven— though this mystery is wrapped up far too quickly in the last few chapters, though I will say the ‘twist’ as to why Misha is in the area (if you want to call it a twist) did come as a surprise for me.
Character wise, as made evident by the characters themselves— there are no “good” characters, and while Misha is by no means innocent he is perhaps the most emotionally mature of all of them and very self aware. Ryen I couldn’t stand for most of the book, which is a shame as Punk 57 is a dual POV narrative and you see things from both of their perspectives.
Despite its “spicy scenes” as tik tok would call it, it doesn’t make up for it’s rushed simplicity but if you’re looking for a trashy romance, easy read, Punk 57 fits that narrative.

I found this book by chance and I wasn’t sure when I read the blurb at first but decided to give it ago. I am so glad I did, no regrets. I have been so addicted to Ryen and Misha, I have stayed up late reading, I’ve read this every chance I got and when I wasn’t reading, I was thinking about when I could read next. This is the first book I’ve read from Penelope Douglas and I’m away to go read more. She might even be my new favourite. The way she tells the story, the way she has us, the readers captivated, hanging on every word – it’s simply stunning. I won’t give away any spoilers as I hate that but there is a massive twist at the end that literally had me shocked and I never seen it coming. Ryen and misha’s relationship is beautiful, through the ups and the downs, they were meant to be! Pen pals turned soul mates. Love love loved every bit of this story! Can’t wait to read more from Penelope Douglas!

Penelope is by far one of my favourite authors and knows how to write an insane smut/romance novel.
Misha wow! ???? need I say more. I love everything about his character. Ryen and misha are just perfect together, had the tingles in some of the high school scenes as they were just soo good!!
Cant recommend this enough! The story line was 10/10

There are so many mixed reviews for this book none of which I read before I read the book and even if I did, I like to make up my own mind about them especially when they are as mixed as this one is.
I personally really enjoyed this book, I think it depends what you love in a book, what you see and take from it or generally your personal experiences or likes.
Let me start by saying any book with letters as their only form of communication to begin with – I am a total sucker for! Give them to me, I’ll take them all!
Our two leads are Ryen and Misha, there were accidentally paired to be each other’s pen pals cause of their names each teacher assumed the other was the same gender. 7 years later and they are still writing to each other.. until something changes everything.
These two are complete antihero’s, that I couldn’t help but fall for. The intensity of their relationship, passion whether it’s love or hate at that time and their undeniable attraction to each other – I was here for it all.
I would normally talk about the leads individually in my reviews but I’m not going to this time purely because there are so many sides to them both that I think you are better living it through the book. Though you will probably have moments where you hate them both or you may hate them all together, it’s a preference thing.
Misha went through something that changed him, on the same night he came face to face with his muse he loses someone equally as important to him. Like he said it was perfect until they met. He disappears but he’s back and he is taking no prisoners.
Ryen goodness you broken soul. She doesn’t like herself no matter who she tries to be or let others think she is. The classic bullied becoming the bully, she doesn’t want to be invisible no matter the cost. She hates herself for what’s she become but she can’t stop, she can’t go back to being unseen.
I screamed at them, I hated them, I laughed, it got extremely hot in here ???????????? and I loved them.
This book had bullying, lies, truths, drama to no end, steamy senses and more.
I do believe they are soul mates, who needed each other even in their moments of toxicity.

Literally couldn’t put this book down. Not an average straightforward story. I love that it’s a stand alone but can mildly link into others written by the author. Just love. The whole vibe. Completely ????

GET IT GET IT GET IT!!!!
deep, dark, venomous and amazing book!

Hadn’t read a PD book before but was always seeing recommendations for her books and this seemed like a good toe dip into the water!
I’ve seen loads of one star reviews of people expecting this is be a nice little romance, when it definitely is a dark romance ???? That being said it’s on the tamer side of dark romances, I feel.
The whole plot and concept of the book was great! Misha (MMC) and Ryen (FMC) have been pen pals since childhood but have never met. Until Misha accidentally meets her and realises she has been lying to him about who she really is, and basically decides to put her in her place! Plus lots of good revenge plots and secrets alongside this!
I would say it was hard to get into at first as a big chunk of the first few chapters are just from Ryen’s perspective who I found annoying at first but she grew on me! But definitely worth persevering with!
