‘You drive for show, you putt for dough’. This old saying is familiar to all golfers and Bob Rotella, one of the foremost authorities on golf today, is a firm believer in its truth. In Putting out of Your Mind, he reveals the unique mental approach that great putting requires and helps golfers of all levels master this essential skill.

Much like Golf Is Not a Game of Perfect and Golf Is a Game of Confidence, Putting out of Your Mind is a resonant and informative guide to achieving a better golf game. While most golfers spend their time trying to perfect their swing so they can hit the ball further, Rotella encourages them to concentrate on their putting, the most crucial yet overlooked aspect of the game. Great players are not only aware of the importance of putting, they go out of their way to master it. And of course mastery begins with an understanding of the attitude needed to be a better putter. Rotella’s mental rules, which have helped some of the greatest golfers in the world to become champion putters can now work for golfers everywhere.

With everything from true-life stories from some of the greats to dozens of game-changing practice drills, Putting out of Your Mind is the new bible of putting, and is sure to bring about immediate results for anyone who plays the game.

I bought this book on the recommendation of my club pro and was not disappointed. I play off scratch and have always felt my putting was a part of the game that was just not good enough. I am a firm believer in getting the mechanics right and this book does not go into this element of the game. The prose purely focuses on your mental attitude which is a big part of putting. I have bought the putting to win DVD from Bob Rotella and this book is a good supplement. The biggest thing to take out of the book is that putting should be fun and not so “you must make this at your standard”.. it takes the pressure out of the whole scenario. My one criticism is that it is difficult to put the thesis into practice and that is where the DVD is better. Unless you have Bob Rotella stood over you it means you are constantly racking your brains to remember things he is recommending to try / execute. Great read though, especially if you are struggling with your putting and putting pressure on yourself to make putts!

I have other books by Bob Rotella and they generally follow a pattern. That’s not to say the books are no good as the central message is spot on.
Most golfers should know by now there is no “magic” answer to our woes, no piece of kit that will guarantee shooting low single figures every time we turn up at the club (if there was we couldn’t afford it anyway).
As Bob Rotella explains exceedingly well it comes down to the goings on in the area between the ears.
The book suggests ways of ensuring a positive and confident outlook on behalf of the player and actions one can take to optimise the process of attaining that state of mind.
I play off a 12 handicap and have recently started to have problems with my putting, following the advice has improved my putting results and I’m in no doubt that if I were to put more of the suggested effort into this area they would improve further.
Good writing style and advice one can’t dispute – its a question of “just doing it” to coin a phrase.

I have been yipping for years now. Though I play off a 5 handicap I still had massive problems with edgy putting especially under pressure. This book did really help me and I did have a great improvement the very next round after reading it. The practical advice it gives could have been writtn in 10 pages to be honest. Most of the book talks about experiances that other golfers have had and drills that most experianced golfers will already know about. If however you are like me and just love to read anything golf related then you will love this book. I recommend it to anyone who stands over a 5ft putt and has a bad thought rather than a good one.

I’ve had many putting lessons, with various coaches and the concepts in this book were not discussed with any of them.

I always thought there was something deeply wrong with my technique and I just needed to ‘practice’

I read this and it all made complete sense. Felt much more confident putting and saw improvements in the very next round.

I will be ruthlessly implementing this book forever more.

If you thought you were destined to be an awful putter – get this book
