Lots of ideas on colour-ways and showing how a pretty ugly piece of furniture can be transformed. Some items were a bit too shabby chic for my taste but you can easily see how to adapt the ideas to suit your own taste. Paint is not so easy to get where I live so will need to stock up for a few projects. I think this book is an excellent source book.

I bought this for my lady and then immediately had doubts about the suitability of the book as a birthday gift. “Isn’t it a bit boring?”‘ I asked myself. I needn’t have worried. She has read the ink off the pages…at least three times and now, armed with her tins of wax and chalk, she is transforming any piece of furniture she can lay her tiny hand upon. This is good stuff, with tips to circumnavigate practical challenges, assistance with all manner of techniques and lots of step-by-step diagrams. The book assumes that the reader shall be starting off with a limited amount of prior knowledge and so the volume is suitable for the either the complete novice or professionals who wish to transform tired, battered or nondescript household fittings. Straightforward, highly readable, extremely informative, a truly brilliant, engrossing book that can be read simply for pleasure, it is so attractively laid-out and well-written.!

I thought this was fabulous. I did three of the suggested projects and transfirmed my fading furniture at the same time preventing things going to landfill. Such easy projects and lovely photos

Having seen the amount of shabby chic furniture etc appearing in the shops I decided that I would like to have a go ‘reviving’ some tired modern pipe furniture that would otherwise have been broken up or gone to the tip. The book is well illustrated and, I think, quite inspiring. Having said this I have only got as far as having a go at a pine box bought from a local DIY store. For me the cost of the Annie Sloan paints, wax and brushes along with the time required to get a really good shabby chic finish has put me off.

The book has some lovely and interesting and inspirational effects techniques. There is, however, next to nothing about how to prepare furniture in the first place, such as stripping old varnishes, sanding down etc. and so it feels like it only does half the process. If I was to buy a second hand piece of furniture I’d most likely have to you-tube instructions or find another book to get me to the stage where I was ready to pick up this one.

Also, she concentrates on using her own range of furniture paints and varnishes/waxes and gives very little direction as to what to look for and what else would be suitable if you were to use other products.

I will definitely try some of the suggestions in the book, and it does have some inspirational ideas, but it is not a one-stop-information-shop which some total beginners would need.

I bought this book to find out more about the paint and various technicques as it seemed like the best paint for the job. I knew what I was getting before I bought it and knew I didn’t like everything in it particularly the spotty item on the front of the book, which seems very childlike.
The book was really helpful, so that I knew a bit about the paint and its effects before starting to use it. I also checked out Annie Sloan’s website though. I was after something slightly different to anything in the the book but the book gave me the basic ideas and also what I didn’t want. I have painted my welsh dresser now and it is exactly how I wanted it. I love the colours and I also have mixed them a little to achieve exactly what I had in mind. I’m about to start on a nest of tables now and I do like some of the other ideas for future projects.
