RAINBOW BRIDGE: A Visit to Pet Paradise
£5.70£9.50 (-40%)
Seven-year-old Rick and his beloved dog Koko are inseparable. They cavort in the swimming hole, chase each other through the fields, play fetch and wrestle. But their relationship changes as Koko grows old and his health declines.
With Koko’s passing, Rick is devastated. But then one night, he is woken by Buster, a flatulent but well-intentioned messenger dog, who suddenly appears at the boy’s bedside. Buster ferries Rick to a magical paradise for pets where Rick is reunited with Koko; it fills Rick’s heart with joy. It’s a place where cats burrow through fields of catnip, no couch is off-limits to dogs and frisbees are flung endlessly. This mysterious adventure is truly a holiday miracle!
Adrian Raeside captures the special bond between humans and their pets, and with marvelous illustrations, brings a gentle humour to a story that will resonate with children and pet lovers of all ages.

And this book has provided us with a beautiful story, and great answer, and yet no lie ! We did NOT want to lie to the children about death and yet explaining what death is to a 2 and a 4 yo is just impossible. This book provides an answer, which also introduces the idea that humans age and die… It did get them worried at first but now they understand, and we could not have done it without this brilliant little story.
It so happens that our 4yo has a little teddy that looks like our dachshund, so we told him that tesdy can visit the rainbow bridge just like Buster in the story, so he can let Oz know what’s happening in his life via the teddy… He did for a few weeks, it’s now completely unnecessary for him.

Bought this book after our family pet passed on, and wanted something to explain everything to the kids. Sadly the book came in very poor condition with nearly every page bent. Crayon marks throughout makes me think its second hand despite buying brand new?

This book was a very important purchase to use in a classroom setting for children experiencing the death of a pet.

This is a beautifully written story for children who have just experienced the loss of a pet. Our daughter was 5 when our cat was hit by a car & passed away. This story helped us massively. Would definitely recommend it.

This is a lovely book, well written and illustrated about the Rainbow Bridge, where pets go to wait until they are reunited with their humans and go to heaven. It has no mention of heaven or religion, which will suit many families. However, be aware that the book does say that people also die and shows two old people being reunited with their pets, so not one to read to children who don’t yet know that everyone will die, including them. It also ends with the boy getting another dog, which you might not want to introduce if you don’t intend to get another.

We brought this for our nearly 5 year old after the loss of our family dog. There are some great pictures and its well written but it ends with them replacing the old dog with a puppy on christmas morning…now my daughter thinks we can get a new dog. Cheers!
