‘Love this book! It triggers so many memories of the rave era. Thoroughly recommended.’ – FATBOY SLIM

‘Captures the hedonism and humour of the nineties with a laugh-out-loud honesty. The perfect Ibiza holiday read…if you can get it through customs!’ – JUDGE JULES

As a humble barman at the M25 Orbital raves, Kirk Field witnessed the moment acid house exploded. Inspired by media lies to start writing the truth about what he saw unfolding, Kirk became a ‘raving’ reporter for the clubbers’ bible Mixmag, covering the historic parties from the inside and sending sweat-soaked dispatches from distant dancefloors as the scene expanded across Europe and beyond.

With a cast of characters including Diego Maradona, Timothy Leary, the KLF, Michael Eavis, Genesis P-Orridge, Brigitte Nielsen, Boris Yeltsin, Boy George, Saddam Hussein’s wife, the president of Tunisia, the CIA, the KGB, Dave Courtney, Norman Lamont’s dominatrix and even Her Majesty the Queen, Kirk’s whirlwind account of the golden age of clubbing tells the story of what really happened in the ‘naughty ’90s’, exposing the seedy underbelly of rave culture while also capturing the nostalgic spirit of the era.

Told through a mixture of vivid first-person narrative, surreal insider anecdotes and incisive social commentary, this honest, hilarious and uncensored postcard of hedonism will appeal to anyone who’s ever put their hands in the air like they just don’t care.

What a perfect holiday read to relive the era of rave, its origins and how it evolved society as it is today.
The story is told through the eyes of a reporter but not your standard gazette reporter. Someone who lived and breathed it and was in with the scene.
A brilliant book, thank you Kirk!

Got this as part of a gift for my sisters ’50th’ so she could relive her raving years. She seemed delighted with it. From the small bit I read looks like it will be very nostalgic if you loved through that era.

An excellent, and highly entertaining, history of the beginnings of the rave scene in the UK, and the time time shortly thereafter as the Acid House revolution spreads. Makes one (very) sorry that you weren’t there and part of it all… 🙂 (insert smiley here)

Mark my words or rather Kirk Fields ! This book is an instant cult classic. I have diagnosed ADHD and as a result reading is rather a challenge, but I have NOT been able to put this book down. I read half of it in one sitting! I’ve had to slow myself down because I just don’t want it to end. It’s absolutely delicious in its hedonism. But it’s an honest account of a really innocent adventure! Kirk finds himself just going along with it all and somehow ending up slap bang in the middle of the most important time for dance music and youth culture in history. Buy this book and then buy one for anyone you know who lived through this era and then their kids and your parents . Everyone should know how it felt to be a part of this amazing time and Kirk delivers his true story in a way that transports you right to the middle of the action. To be honest it’s one of the best books I’ve ever read.

It’s an excellent read for all those who grew up with rave culture in the late 80’s and early 90’s…and anyone who’s in to dance music. The book nicely brings to life how it really was behind the scenes back in the day – a proper ‘page turner’. Kirk is a great writer and has created a bona fide classic. Nice one!

Anyone interested in house music, this is a must read. It gives a first hand account of how the acid house rave scene started in the UK and if like me you drove around looking for raves in the 80’s, it will put a smile on your face. It’s a VIP insider’s look at how it all came to be and the ups and downs.

The author also has an intelligent, forward thinking and serious side to him true to the spirit of E culture, I wish him luck.

If you love house music and raving, then you’ll love this book. They should teach this in history class to kids.
