‘It’s a tough gig to write a book that is both academic and accessible. And yet Stuart and Amy have pulled this off. It is a brilliant boon to the English teaching community.’ – Mary Myatt
Ready to Teach: A Christmas Carol brings together the deep subject knowledge, resources and classroom strategies needed to teach Dickens’s most famous Christmas story, as well as the pedagogical theory behind why these ideas work, helping teachers to deliver a knowledge-rich curriculum with impact.
With fresh approaches building on the success of Ready to Teach: Macbeth, each chapter contains lesson-by-lesson essays and commentaries that enhance subject knowledge on key areas of the text alongside fully resourced lessons reflecting current and dynamic best practice.
The book also offers an introduction to the key pedagogical concepts which underpin the lessons and why they are proven to help students develop powerful knowledge and key skills.
Whether you are new to teaching or looking for different ways into the text, Ready to Teach: A Christmas Carol is the ideal companion to the study of this 19th century classic.
With a foreword by Mary Myatt.

Amy and Stuart have done it again! I genuinely thought I knew ‘A Christmas Carol’ well but the insights and depth that ‘Ready to Teach: A Christmas Carol’ goes into is phenomenal. This really is a must have for all those who teach the text. Not only has it improved my subject knowledge but the downloadable resources will save me so much time when planning my schemes. Here’s hoping there’s a Ready to Teach 3 to come soon!

Amazing book / excellent CPD on this novella. Would highly recommend.

This book is just excellent. A bit of a rabbit hole sometimes with the detail but it is designed to also dip into if you don’t have the time for full immersion.
Lots of practical ideas. Look forward to more from these authors. Leaves you with a real feeling of subject CPD, which is missing from schools

A great book that accommodates a knowledge-led approach to teaching ACC.

I actually bought this one and their Macbeth one at the same time but have yet to use the Macbeth one.
As a PGCE/trainee teacher I love love love this book. I’ve not yet got an arsenal of activities to choose from – this book gives me ideas that i otherwise wouldn’t have for years.
I’m teaching to year 8, so some of the activities are too advanced but easy to adapt for the age group.
The book starts every chapter with analysis of the stave and then activities, which I suppose would be EVEN MORE helpful to those teaching GCSE but I’m enjoying flicking through for my own development too.
The activities are in the book but also there’s a Dropbox link so that you can get them straight onto your worksheet/slides/whatever! No need to spend hours fiddling with lines!
To conclude – love love love and I genuinely look forward to teaching Macbeth so that I can use that one too. I can’t wait until they do other texts also! 🙂
