Feels like this was rushed unfortunately, the story is simplistic and basic, the characters aren’t memorable or particularly likeable. I suspect this was ghost written, and not well.
My 7yo enjoyed it though, so what do I know!

My 6 year old liked it, he’s into machineries and I thought he’d appreciate this one, we read it in a few evenings together as a bedtime story. Lovely pictures to look at together, and the hardcover is really well made and good to look at! He’s re-reading some bits on his own, overall ok and at a 6-7 year old reading level if there are avid readers. He didn’t go mad for this book, but did enjoy it.
Now, as an adult, I found the story cliche’, cheesy without depth, and, annoyingly, with way too many sounds to read. Too many characters, also not memorable. As a fan or Dahl and a comic reader, technically I should have appreciated these – I didn’t. As much as critics may say it, there is nothing of Dahl’s poetry and subtleness in DW’s books. I’d say 4 stars from my son, 2 from me, hence 3 stars.
