I gave this product a 2 star I am a teacher and in the past they provided the MP4 CD with every level which is great from a sound point of view as I spent a small fortune on a sound system so that the student can play along just like they are in a studio. From a student point of view this is a great advantage for students who are serious
Unfortunately this is not the case anymore we have to download MP3 files played back on a laptop this is so disappointing contacted support and their response was very negative to say the least. I am looking for alternative products to help my students

This book is great. Comes with easy to download music for the grade and also is very professionally produced. There is a printing error on Tiberius, as I’m trying to hit a floor tom and confusing myself when it is actually a bass drum. Apart from that, great book.

No. 5 in the essential series for any budding drummer. Clear and relatively simple and very informative. I must admit that to a certain extent, the older series felt better, but time moves on. So these books plus a good teacher and lots of practise should set you well on your way.

I teach drums professionally and have a bit of a love/hate situation going on with this (and some of the other RSL books)
Plus points;
– There is a lot of choice, 12 pieces from which to choose from. This is more than any other grade syllabus that I’m aware of, and means that there is most likely something in there to please everyone.
– Fairly decent selection of styles. I think I would’ve liked to see a swing/jazz piece at Grade 5.
– The technical exercises/sight reading/ear tests sections are a great way for me as a teacher to help students with some of the really important aspects of playing the drums
Negative points;
The inconsistency of difficulty. I know it is tricky choosing how to make these things level out, however there are both some very easy pieces and very challenging pieces all within the same book. This is pretty true of all of the RSL drum grades and is a bit of a shame as the song choices are mostly excellent.
