Ashley Havers knows nothing about rugby, but he’s determined to save Badcock RFC from certain bankruptcy.

After entering the team into a local tournament, Ashley embarks on an unexpected journey to turn a shockingly awful team into tournament winners. Despite the long odds and the overwhelming pressure, he’s convinced he can take them all the way. But just when it looks like it’s all sorted, his world falls apart, and Ashley must fight for the future of the club he inherited.

If you enjoyed the comedy of Dodgeball (the film) and the heart of Ted Lasso (the series), then you’ll love this heartwarming tale of a man determined to save a club from going bust.

Having played rugby at grassroots level,I6g found so much of this book rang true. However, if we had an ex international centre playing for us, he would probably have been put in as hooker. A really good read.

Any grass roots rugby player/supporter will love this and truly empathise. A fun read even if you don’t know rugby

I bought this book believing it was based on a true story, but 2 chapters in it was clear that it was such an unbelievable story that it could not possibly be true. That said, it didn’t spoil the read for me, it was an engaging and sometimes light-hearted read with the odd ‘laugh out loud’ moment. By the end of the book, there were many things I could relate to in my own rugby club, and I felt like I knew a lot of the club members. I liked them too. ????

Could see this happening at any grass roots club. Fantastic, really felt you where on the touchline watching this going on.

Reading the author’s notes he seems like a nice guy and he has clearly spent time in rugby clubs. But if you are going to spend money on this book you need to know what to expect.

Mills and Boon would have thought long and hard before accepting this storyline and the ending ought to come with a health warning and free insulin. No one can process that amount of syrupy sugar without help.

It did make me smile now and again but it is nowhere near as funny as the advertising blurb makes out. In fairness, what book is. The book is not big on detail either. An example without giving too much away.

It says it is aimed at rugby players and fans. The first match the Frenchman plays it says he scored 12 tries and gave a walk-in to another player. That is a minimum of 13 tries which even if they missed every single conversion is 65 points but at the end he says the final score was 56-10. Minor but irritating when it says it is aimed at rugby folk.

I am not saying don’t buy it but know what you are buying so you are not disappointed.

So cheesy. Would have been better if his misses ran of with Sella they lost the final.and he ended up with
Fiona who was a millionaire and invested to save the club. The end.

Flowing prose it’s not but it’s fun, every page, if you know rugby you’ll recognise someone from your club on every page.
Home from a club meeting tonight as I finished the book I was laughing out loud, it was only minutes ago that I sat with the people from the pages from this book.
    You’ll love it.
