Set before Rule Number Five (Jax & Sid), Rules Of The Game is a heart-breaking & gut-wrenching book that will have you feeling every single emotion. There was laughter and there were tears (a lot of tears!).
I adored Piper and thought she held her own extremely well considering everything that had happened with her and her family (during and after the incident). Lucas did thoroughly frustrate me throughout but I could also understand where he was coming from and why he felt the guilt he did and Jessa did an amazing job portraying this.
Jax devastated me in this book and I’m so happy that we got to see his happy ending first in RNF.
The little teasers that we got regarding Alex & River was everything and I cannot wait for their book!
This book contains:
•Brothers Best Friend
•College Hockey
•Found Family
•Lots & lots of emotion
Favourite Quotes:
– “Why did you call me and not Marcus? You know he’d have come.” “Because I wanted it to be you.”
– “You’ve always meant more to me. I should’ve told you sooner.”
– “I love you with my last name”
– “You have always been mine, Piper. I’m going to marry you. You’re just not ready for me to ask you yet.”

I thought this series couldn’t get any better but I was wrong, Jessa has ignited a new love for sports romance I didn’t know I had!

This was a great story, some heartbreak at the beginning but things did get better. I loved Piper, she was such a strong character, she’d been through so much but wouldn’t take any rubbish. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Lucas and Piper are just ????
This book had me hooked from page one, I’ve laughed I’ve cried and I’ve fell in love with these two, hard. I read the whole thing in less than 24 hours. Would give it 100 stars if I could. Jesse has become one of my favourite authors. Rule Breaker series is a MUST read.

Only because I rated Rule Number Five 5 stars and this one did not quite hit as hard for me. But fear not, it came very close!!!
So don’t get me wrong, I absolutely loved it and devoured it two (three?) days. But I love love love a good angsty romance, and the angst was angsting a little bit more in RNF. Personal preference, is all.
Before I get into it, I would like to express my everlasting gratitude to Jessa, who in her great generosity, decided to offer an ARC to all of the hockey romance obsessed girlies from her Facebook reading group who signed up for it. I have 0 relevance in the book community, no followers (my account is private for heaven’s sake), but Jessa said *”you get an ARC, you get an ARC, EVERYBODY gets an ARC!!”*.
So here am I. A non-native speakers trying to put my internal rambling into words, trying to tell you how much I loved this book and how much I loved to rant after our characters when they were doing something that I, in my infinite wisdom, judged stupid, sexist or toxic. How much I loved them when they were being sweet, vulnerable, hot and/or adorable.
This story focuses on Piper and Lucas, whom we first meet in RNF as Jax’s friends. It’s set before and slightly during RNF. Piper is Marcus’ sister, and she’s part of the friend group formed by these two, plus Jax and Lucas. They all met when they were 7yo, and have been hanging out ever since.
Things change dramatically after tragedy hits, as we learned in RNF, and heartbreak and bad decisions ensue. Will our two lovers find their way back to each other?
I loved the tension, loved the heartbreak, loved the spice. The plot itself is fairly simple, it just follows the evolution of their relationship, step by step, events by events, and I love that for a romance book. It’s focused on the MC and their feelings, and it’s so delicious.
SPOILERS BELOW:
Here’s a few thoughts I have about the characters:
Marcus is an *ss. I know he’s a stereotyped fictional character but I hated the double standard so much. I was crushed when he died but I didn’t really have time to get attached to him bc I was too busy despising him.
Lucas took long enough to pull his head out of his butt BUT once he does, he’s incredible. I understand where he’s coming from but mate, you could have just talked to her rather than abandoning her. But hey, we need them to drift apart.
Piper is sweet and funny but she needs to stand up for herself more.
Also, a 4 year old kid at 26? Who are these people? Cannot relate.

Even though we know how it ends for Lucas and Piper in the end of Rule Number Five, I don’t think I was completely prepared for how much heartache and suffering the pair (and even Jax) would go through.
After the death of their best friend and brother, Lucas and Pipers relationship was never the same. He withdrew was cold and distanced himself from her, breaking her heart and leaving her behind whilst he went off and lived his life. Piper struggled with the loss of two people in her life when she needed one the most, but when she finds herself back in the lives of her best friends she can only do one thing. Accept it and play the long game. Feelings for Lucas resurface and as much as they both want to deny them, there’s no denying they’re meant to be, but how they get to where they need to be is another story.
How a book can be both beautifully heartbreaking and heartwarming? Another must read from Jessa Wilder.

Rules of the game
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I absolutely loved this book. It was so nice to get the insight of quite what happened when they were all younger and to see how Lucas and piper came to be together. This book had me in absolute tears at certain parts and then laughing the next. It does talk about death of a love one which can be quite hard to read but it was definitely worth it. I was hoping for a little more from this book but nonetheless I’m still incredibly happy with it and would 100% recommend reading it. I can’t wait for the next book In the series between Adam, River and Mia.

Lucas and pipers story took place before jax and sid so bare that in mind.
I have a love/hate relationship with lucas, I want to slap him and hug him at the same time!! Piper is such a strong FMC and I was rooting for her the whole damn time.
I cried I laughed I swooned and cried some more. It was the perfect mix between sweet and spicy.
10/10 writing from Jessa and I can’t wait for her next book!
Ps. That epilogue???????????????
