Running from Injury: Why runners get injured and how to stop it
£9.50
Peter Francis saw his teenage years transformed by a miracle drug called running. His elation was
soon followed by despair, in the form of 12-years of repetitive injuries. Spurred on by personal
injustice, Peter pursued 3-science degrees, multiple coaching and consultancy roles before making a
breakthrough in the form of what had seemed like an unlikely comeback. In 2016 aged 29-years, for
the first time in his life, he ran for almost 3-years uninterrupted. This period coincided with running
multiple personal bests (33:46 10-km; 78:00 half marathon). In this book, he uses a combination of
his own story and his learnings spanning some 18-years of trial and error to provide a holistic
explanation for why runners get injured and how best to avoid it. His personal story is as captivating
as the information it imparts. Whether you are a disgruntled beginner or an Olympic hopeful, you
cannot help but become more consistent having read this book.

This is an excellent book, I struggled to put it down once I started reading it. As someone who has suffered from running injuries I can appreciate the wealth of knowledge presented. The author explains why an injury had developed and how to deal with it both physically and mentally. The mental component is has such a big impact on how you manage and experience pain and it is all explained perfectly in this book.
I loved the sections on ‘consistency’ and ‘headspace’, which demonstrated that successful running is cumulation of many external factors. Barefoot running and running specific training suggestions also make this book a very well rounded package.
There is a wealth of good information and actionable steps that are applicable for runners of all experience levels and it has made me reassess how I will train in future.

This is an excellent book for anyone who has suffered from overuse running injuries.
Peter’s experience was very relatable to me, albeit he was running at a higher level.
He provided real insight on the reasons we get injured and has some excellent, practical advice for avoiding these issues in the future and becoming a consistent runner.

This could so easily be a book about how to achieve anything worthwhile in life. Consistency is the key to injury free running but also the key to success in our modern day lives. The author explains in clear and simple terms why we fail to achieve consistency and how we can work with ourselves to become more consistent. I’ll be using this for a lot more than running. His personal story is captivating throughout, I couldn’t put it down.

This book is an honest and compelling read of the author’s struggle with injury throughout his running career. The author is clearly highly informed and manages to convey the multi faceted cause of injury in a clear and accessible way to anyone from a non scientific background. His honesty is compelling. I look forward to trying out his approach. Highly recommended.

I am normally a slow reader but really enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down. Peter has written about all the matters in a very simply easy to understand way which is never easy. Only thing I would have liked to have seen was more descriptions about the exercises he mentions in the book.
