So thinnest book ever! It might be waterproof, it might have good illustrations, but seriously at 75 p a knot I feel underwhelmed!

I have to smile when folks complain this booklet is overpriced. It is rather expensive for what you get. But I think that’s missing the point. It is intended to be a handy guide which you can carry in your pocket when sailing and it covers the 8 knots sailors use on a regular basis. Given the relatively small number of these which will be sold, the waterproof pages and the spiral binding it is not that outrageous. If you want a cheap solution Google the knots. If you want handy this is just the jo.

The fault really lies with Amazon for not putting a picture of the back cover on here. That provides clear information about what’s in the booklet and why.

If you think this one is bad try the “Handy Guide to the Racing Rules 2017-2020”!

    17 Pages. 8 knots.
    1) Figure of Eight, 2) Clove hitch, 3) Rolling Hitch, 4) Bowline, 5) Sheet Bend – Single, 6) Sheet bend – Double, 7) Reef Knot, 8) Round turn and Two Half Hitches.
No explanation of where or when they might be used, Nothing on typical boating ropes or cordage, No whippings or eyelets, Nothing on storing lines.

I really can’t see the point of this book. 7 of the most common knots that I would expect anyone with a slight interest in sailing would have learnt already (I’ll give you that the Rolling Hitch is less common).

Save your money and buy RYA Knots, Splices and Ropework Handbook instead.
