Sea of Memories
£2.70
When Kendra first visits her ailing grandmother, Ella has only one request: that Kendra write her story down, before she forgets…
In 1937, seventeen-year-old Ella’s life changes forever when she is sent to spend the summer on the beautiful Île de Ré and meets the charismatic, creative Christophe. They spend the summer together, exploring the island’s sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters, and, for the first time in her life, Ella feels truly free.
But the outbreak of war casts everything in a new light. Ella is forced to return to Scotland, where she volunteers for the war effort alongside the dashing Angus. In this new world, Ella feels herself drifting further and further from who she was on the Île de Ré. Can she ever find her way back? And does she want to?
From the windswept Île de Ré to the rugged hills of Scotland, Sea of Memories is a spellbinding journey about the power of memory, love and second chances.

An interesting plot but a bit tedious. I am a bit tired of books that fou byr back and forwards between time frames. Maybe I don’t like to keep looking back I don ‘t know. Well worth a read though and I shall persevere with her writing.

This is a really good read. It’s set in different time zones ie second world war and the present, both in Scotland and France. I loved the characters and it was written with great sensitivity.
This is the third book I have read by this author and loved everyone.

Emotional, beautiful, life affirming.
This book has everything. I don’t remember when a book made me both smile and cry. Stunning.

A charming story of love, pain and misunderstanding in its many guises but mainly love. A true sea of memories.

This book was so well written and absorbed me. I have read some of Fiona Valpay ‘s other novels and find that they take you on a journey through the French countryside and it’s history.

Loved the simplicity and clarity of the different characters involved in the story, which actually covered a lot of ground from the ordinary everyday lives to the exraordiary experiences during war times. The deep love between family and friends shining through the raw difficulties of family conflicts and misunderstandings.A great read.????
