This is a brilliant new historical addition to the “See Inside” series, looking closely at the vehicles and major events that defined the Second World War as one of the most destructive wars in history. Lifting the flaps reveals the insides of some of the military vehicles used during campaigns including tanks, fighter planes and aircraft carriers, while others look in depth at life during the Blitz and the action on the beaches during the invasion of Normandy.

Brought for my 7 year old ‘war obsessed’ son. Great illustrations, written well for his ability to understand- all that is left is for me to brush up on my knowledge to answer all of his questions!

Bought for my 8 year old grandson who is totally wrapped up with anything to do with WW1 and WW2. He has several of the flap books on other subjects but this is the one that attracts him the most. The flaps are a good source of anticipation whilst reading through the book. Very good book. Would definitely recommend.

This book provides a very good, highly readable and understandable overview on an incredibly complex subject. Ask any adult about the causes of WWII and you’ll get some vague generalities. This book summarises the key events, the main actors and puts the whole drama in a context that is digestible for younger readers. But even as an adult with quite some background on the subject, I must say that I quite enjoyed the guided reading sessions for which we used this book.

As always these Young Reader books are very well presented. It comes in a hard cover format with a page finder ribbon and is filled with colourful illustrations, photographs from the age and clear graphs.

Our 9-year old daughter considers herself a World War 2 expert. Which is fair enough, though she only read the Anne Frank and Adolf Hitler famous Lives books from this series. Yet it has given her a decent understanding and perhaps indeed she is a bit more knowledgable about the subject than most of the children of her age. Also because over the years we’ve visited quite few locations and museums related to the conflict. So the book was very welcome, and it is just helpful to have a proper account of the topic.

The fact that these books are of good quality and come will ensure that they will be passed on at some stage to the owner’s little brother. He is is only six years old, but for whatever reason he is actually obsessed with military stuff and WW2 – therefore he was a little upset that his big sis got such a nice book with interesting illustrations about one of his favourite topics.

Usually these “pop up” childrens books are very good and really make the children take an interest in a subject. This book however about the second world war, depicts everything about the americans winning the war , with hardly any mention or pictures of the british involvement . !!

My son who is 8 loves this book. I must admit that he was somewhat disinterested when I bought it for him. However, since our visit to Normandy where he was able to visit some of the D-Day landings beaches and museums, he developed a real interest and came home and found this book to be pitched at just the right level. A shame that there wasn’t a little more information about how/why the war started as he wanted to know about that. He was also asking about what happened to Hitler, which the book doesn’t touch on either. But all in all a very good purchase.
