I LOVE this book. The recipes are simple, quick, and DELICIOUS -Great for a tasty but healthy meal when you get home from work and need to get dinner done fast! I just with there was a greater variety of recipes -There are several repeats. (i.e. black bean crab and then later black bean chicken, or szechuan fish and then szechuan green beans)
So to repeat, this is a great book to get started, but you will need to look elsewhere quickly because once you start, you just want to keep on going!

Am I the only one to lament the rise of cookery books that are designed first to please the eye? Certainly, a picture can say more than a thousand words but I’ll take the thousand words in a cookbook any day, that is, IF the cook really has something to say about the ingredients, what to look for, how to proceed. That said I think the title does say it all. It contains recipes that are simple and palatable, some are even delicious.

I bought this and “Chinese Food Made Easy” by Ching-He Huang at the same time, but sent the other one back. I preferred this one by Ken Hom as the ingredients are more realistic, the pictures are more explanatory and the recipes look easier to follow.

I like Ken Hom but his recipes sometimes have ingredients I might not have to hand. This book solves that, it’s theme is – as it says on the cover…simple recipes.

I have zero confidence as a cook. However, I love Chinese food and I wanted to give cooking it a try.
I absolutely love this book! Its easy to follow and the recipes turn out really nicely. They are simply perfect for a beginner like me.
10/10 and will be purchasing more of Ken Homs books.

I bought this book years ago and have loved it since and followed many of the recipes in it – all of which are good. I recently spent time living away from my normal home and bought myself a new copy to use in my new place. His velveting technique for chicken (I do it in water) really is a game changer and I use it in many other non-chinese dishes.

Bought as a Christmas gift so unable to fully review but first impressions look good. Bought for family member who is interested in learning basics to Chinese cooking. Flicked through first few pages which highlight some of the key equipment and ingredients that you need for the recipes which I found useful as I intend to supplement this book with some of the suggestions made as part of the overall gift. Also had a sneak at a couple of the recipes and tried one which was easy and quick for week day dinner. Don’t think it will turn you into a master chef but certainly think its a useful book to pick up for some quick and easy meals

Perfect for a quick, simple and tasty chinese meals. I’ve adapted a few but I use this book regularly to cook both quick mid week dinners and weekend ‘takeaway’ treats.
