brought this for my partner but gave it a read. Its a brilliant book with lots of insight, i thought it would be a more step by step guide of how to’s but its more of a theory behind photography book such how to frame a picture to look better and why this works. We both really like the book its just not what was expected.

I’ve been into photography for many years, but it’s years since I’ve bought a book on it and as I’m taking more pics on my phone these days I wondered if there were any books angled at that. Buying this was a complete punt and I’m very happy with it. Obviously it talks about the normal photography technicalities but with a smartphone twist (both iPhone and Android camera apps) and its very well written and a nice easy read with it. So having taken some good pics over the years on my old phone I’m looking forward to taking some even better ones on my new one in tandem with some tips out of this book. Suitable for oldies and newbies alike too.

Good to read my first photo book. I’ve done a number of composition and editing courses online but it’s good to get to see the similar recommendations in print. Nice to have an illustrated book.

I find myself using my camera far less and less these days and my camera phone more and more. Books for this are sadly lacking and so this is a very worthwhile addition to the photography book field. Not only that, it is wide ranging and well written with just sufficient level of detail to encourage the reader to try one or two new things. Recommended!

I was recently looking for a new project and decided to start using the camera on my mobile phone.
I’m not a photographer so I wanted something to navigate through all the different available options without getting bogged down in all the jargon.
This book is perfect as it’s written by a skilled photographer who understands how to get the most out of these devices.
I also like the overall presentation and and easy to read style.
Despite that fact that it’s only 160 pages or so long it will manages to cover plenty of topics and have lots of examples together with exercises to demonstrate the entails of how focus and exposure work together with all the common functions like composition, panorama, slow shutter, macro, portrait and landscape.
Highly recommended.
Update: since getting this book I have decided to go further and get a good bridge camera.
I’d like to add that the book gives me everything that I want to use the intelligent, programme and priority modes for shutter, aperture and ISO. By the time that I have mastered this i feel confident that I Will be able to use manual mode too.

This is a marvellously timely book, for up to now there has been a distinct lack of help for mobile phone photographers wanting to update their skills – in spite of the fact that a large majority of photos these days are taken on mobiles. This book puts that right. It is packed with useful tips and sound tuition, but it is all given to the reader in easy-to-understand terms; and it’s nicely illustrated to make sure the messages come across. If anyone wants to improve their mobile photographic skills – for example, to transform their personal social media pages – they should buy this book. It will help all levels of skill to improve. At the price, it’s got to be one of the best and simplest aids to better photos; anyone can use it and I think anyone buying it will be delighted! I know I was!

I am a complete beginner when it comes to technical aspects of photography but I’d like to learn how to make better pictures to accompany my articles. This book starts from where I am – thankfully. It’s important to practise as you go, so read one section then try it out on your own phone, that’s the only way to learn and get better. The advice is clearly divided into sections for i-phone and android users.
