So You Want to be an Actor? (Nick Hern Books) (So You Want To Be…? career guides)
£9.20£10.40 (-12%)
A handbook for aspiring actors, written by two of the best-known actors in the country. This informative and entertaining book offers practical advice and do’s and don’ts to anyone thinking of taking up acting. Both authors are passionate about actor training, know the profession inside out and, as they say in their intro, have more than a hundred years’ experience between them!
Writing alternate paragraphs throughout the book – and frequently contradicting each other! – they cover the whole gamut from * Applying to drama school * Auditioning * Training * Working in unpaid productions * Doing ‘bits’ on telly etc etc and on up to * Getting an agent and * Enduring a West End run – should you be so lucky.
This handy but pleasantly unstuffy manual is essential reading – or an essential gift! – for any aspiring actor.

Really helpful guide as an actor. Splits into 3 sections, prepare, practice and persercersnce. Tells you how to prepare ie. Auditions and physical well being. Also the practice how to approach a character, soliloquy, learning lines, audience. And finally perseverance, being out of work, temporary jobs, relationships, where to live and much much more. It’s a very easy book, nice font, good layout so there’s not a lot of text crammed on one page which I have found in many books. Highly recommended

Very interesting , sensible recommendations to those who wish to follow this career. The reason for my interest is because I had met on various occasions the parents of Prunella and I taught in the school she attended in Sussex, I knew the people she was mentioning and had greatly appreciated. I met her a few years ago at a meeting of former students.

Two of our top actors giving good advice on all aspects of the profession.

This has got to be one of the best books ever written for aspiring actors, or those new to the profession. It covers all those essential questions about auditioning, theatre, TV, film and the way to go about things. Anyone with this book on their shelves, along with “Contacts” and “The Actors’ Handbook” is ready for a life in acting.
There is even a section on how to go about getting the proper training. It is an absolute joy to see so much good sense and advice between two covers.

I run a theatre school, so bought this to help me give advice to my older students who are considering a career in acting. I found this book to be incredibly informative, balanced and interesting. The two authors offer different perspectives on the industry without being overly technical or condescending. My students (aged 15 – 18) really liked it too, and a couple have bought their own copy! Definitely recommend for teens/young adults interested in an acting career, and also for teachers looking to advise them effectively!

This is a good book for someone like me who is interested in acting, the product while it is quite old (2005) details many different things that you will want to know if you want to start a career in acting, there are many different resources for companies and things that actors will find useful.
I would recommend this product to all aspiring actors who want to learn more about the proffesion.
Verdict: Recommended.
