Balanced, spiritual and highly intelligent, Rahman clearly is an enlightened Muslim scholar who lives what he preaches. Such a breath of fresh air away from those conservative hard line idiots who think they are enlightened, but have no insight or spirituality whatsoever. His interpretations of rumi are profound. To be highly recommended. The kind of intelligent spokesperson the faith needs as opposed to what the media presents I.e one bigoted idiot after another all of whom have no concept of what this beautiful religion really teaches and advocates and who really need to stop writing poisonous tracts and seek psychotherapist intervention instead!

It’s hard for me to really express how wonderful this book is. For years I’ve purchased books about Sufism and Islamic mysticism and they often came across as being full of Rumi cliches, or academic and dry. This book is full of wisdom, insight, and heart and repeatedly touched my spirit in ways that others books on the topic have not. Thankfully, the author is also an acclaimed academic so he writes clearly, he references his sources, and I repeatedly felt compelled to underline sentences that were thought provoking. The book has absolutely no judgement in its tone and presents Islamic spirituality as a space and a place and a path for anyone and everyone. Needless to say, I gifted this book to my mother and best friend, and when someone tells me they feel “spiritually disconnected,” I recommend this book.
