Sports Geek: A visual tour of sporting myths, debate and data
£10.00
Sport revolves around two things: narrative and numbers. You need the narrative, otherwise why would anyone care about sport? Rivalries, emotions, and sporting legends all require it. But sport also needs numbers. Without them, we have no idea who has won. We need numbers to tell which team is top of the table, or who is the world champion.
Sports Geek is a visual and numerical tour through sporting debates and ideas. Teams in all sports use data to create extraordinary analysis of how their players perform, to assess tactics and to get an edge over arch rivals; but fans are rarely presented with challenging and informative data that would help them to further understand sport.
You’ll never see sport the same way again.

An easy read of a complex subject. Anyone who has ever made a bet based on emotion, could use this book to win something back. A great socking filler for every sports nut with a brain.

Great book for all sports lovers and even for those who give sports lovers presents.Loads of fascinating, fun and quirky detail about major sports. I did not know before which sport raises most money in prizes or sponsorship; I did not know before why 100 metre super stars are slower at 200 metres. Get it for all your friends and family

This is basically stat heaven. No matter what your sport, there’s something for you here. From breakdowns of all-time classic plays, to who is the greatest, to technology, to drugs, to Hollywood – this gives the low-down on seemingly every sport in the world. And F1.
The statistics are broken down and analysed in a joyful, exuberant way. Rob Minto clearly loves statistics and brings them to live with wit and a surprising amount of wisdom.
You are going to win a lot of pub arguments with this book.

I buy my dad a sports book every year as it’s the only thing I can think of. It’s getting boring, he’s 75!! This however, was an inspired choice. He loved it and that is high praise for the man who has every book in the genre.

A very simple version compared to other ones of a similar topic

I bought this for my sports-mad nephew who is 12. Wasn’t sure he would like all the statistics etc, but thought he would be interested. Well…apparently this was the best present ever and he spent the entire weekend reading it. A great present for anyone interested in sports. BTW his dad loves it too.
