£12.80£13.30 (-4%)

The Anxiety Gremlin loves one thing – to feed on your anxiety! But watch out, as the fuller he gets, the more anxious you get! How can you stop him? Starve him of his favourite food – your anxiety – and he’ll shrink and shrivel away. Starving the Anxiety Gremlin is a unique resource to help young people understand different types of anxiety and how to manage them, including panic attacks, phobias, social anxiety, generalised anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder. Based on cognitive behavioural principles that link thoughts, feelings and behaviours, the techniques described help young people to understand why they get anxious and how they can ‘starve’ their anxiety gremlin in order to manage their anxiety. This engaging workbook uses fun activities and real life stories, and can be used by young people aged 10+ on their own or with a parent or practitioner. It is also an ideal anxiety management resource for those working with young people, including mental health practitioners, social workers, education sector staff and youth workers.

Fantastic little book that really lives up to it’s name.

The discription is bang on so I won’t say much about that, other than it IS a workbook and in my opinion is best used with the child/young person and an adult. For children go through together as previously said by other reviewers, but for the young person (teen) I feel that having an adult available to talk things through is more benifical is their particular anxiety isn’t explained how they understand it.

I feel looking at the issue and listing areas helpful sothe tick boxes included in the book cover this well, and also train this for the future.

It is useful for parents and those working with young people with this type of issue. It also goes beyond young people and, in my opinion, helpful for young adults – although a little chesy at times sections are really helpful, the tick lists, reviewing actual fears, advice/tips on coping in a different way. Great little introduction to CBT.

Really really pleased with this book. We were recommended it by my sons teacher.
My son and I haven’t yet fully gone through it. I have had a really good look through and it’s set out beautifully, there’s so much helpful information, so easy to follow and understand for children.
There is activities for them to do to help them learn about anxiety and more importantly their own specific anxiety. I think it’s great that they’ve done the use of the “anxiety gremlin” it puts an image to their anxiety, it’s now an object almost in their minds and I think from a child’s point of view getting rid of an “object” is easier for them.
Really really pleased so is my son. He’s excited to get down to it and starve his gremlin!

I believe that everyone from all ages, and backgrounds, can relate to, and benefit from, this book. I have gained insight into my thought processes, and have been enabled to analyse my subsequent negative responses. What we tell ourselves impacts on our behaviour, and ultimately our happiness in life. Do not be put off by the target group being teenagers, the principles still apply, and as it is presented in straightforward and simple terms, it is not a chore to read. The use of a ‘gremlin’ allows us to personify our anxiety, so that we then have something tangible to manage, a strange being, hitching a free ride, separate from me, but sucking the life out of me. This approach, allows us the freedom to explore the causes, processes and responses involved in our anxieties in a comfortable, and safe way. After reading this book, I felt empowered, insightful and motivated to ‘Starve my Anxiety Gremlin!’ and send it packing! A wonderful book, that put the real me in charge. Definitely worth a read!
I am a 35 year old social worker, and not only will I continue to refer to the chapters 8 – 11, but I will share what I have learned with colleagues and clients alike.

I bought this for my 12 year old who had a lot of anxiety starting senior school. She has found it really helpful and keeps diving into it weeks after she first read it. Whether it is just the book, or life experience, she is doing much better now, no more worried tears! A huge relief for both of us! Would recommend it, especially if just mentioning going to the doctor sends the anxiety levels even higher! Also kids don’t like admitting their parents are right…if the same advice is written in a book though, that’s a different matter!

This was recommended to us. What a good book, it really helped my daughter understand. It also has activities that she could fill out. The activities helped us as parents understand how she is feeling and when she feels a certain way how to help her

Strategies and activities which can be used with a wide age range and adapted around anxiety. This is a must have/read for professionals (support workers, pastoral teams, social workers). Also useful for parents struggling to manage teenagers suffering with anxiety.
This is a top draw and well written/illustrated. Five stars all the way. Brilliant book/work book.
In fact purchased a few times as presents its so good. Thank you.
