Brian gave a talk at our camera club, via Zoom, here in Maidstone. He was brilliant and I’ll commend him to you if your club is looking for a great speaker. I ordered the book the minute I got home.
I think what ever the level of your photography you’ll find help and inspiration here. Well produced and written, with suitably inspiring images. I’ve read it, re-read its and return to it frequently.

Brian is a well known YouTuber and runner of workshops. This book is well organised and provides plenty of useful advice, encouragement and tips. Like his other books this one is well produced with plenty of illustrative photos etc. and good layout. Its a good size for reading at home.

Brian writes in a way such as to make things simple, understanding and motivational. He is a master of his trade and shares his secrets allowing street photography workshops and the benefits of his knowledge to be applied simply and effectively. I cannot recommend his books highly enough.

Street Photography Workshop is a guide to beginning and developing street photography. The book starts by discussing what is and is not Street photography highlighting the many types of photographs that can be considered by some ‘Street’ and those that are commonly thought not to be ‘Street’. The book also talks about some of the common types of photographs that are seen as boring with little or no artistic merit and some of the dos and don’ts such as photographing the homeless and the issues around photographing children. The law regarding photography in public and private areas is also discussed and the book ends with ideas for taking your Street photography further by creating websites and joining communities.
Brian Lloyd Duckett’s provides some clarification and ideas that I will take with me when I am photographing in the street, particularly around what makes a good Street photograph. There are some great tips on composition using the Gestalt theory that I will think about when generally taking photographs – not just Street Photographs.
There is a bit of repetition in this book, particularly in the first half of the book and although Duckett talks about the styles of some key players in Street photography there are no examples of their photographs so you need to look elsewhere to really understand the context.
