This book could usefully be read by anyone – not just those who want to gain strength.
Three years ago I suffered constant pain, hobbled when I walked , had greatly interrupted nights and was fearful when not in sight of a lavatory.
A nutritionist put me right. I now sleep well, have no pain, am happy to undertake 10 mile walks and have no problems with my digestive system.
That nutritionist was not Mac McLean, but it could have been – because he offers the same advice. Regardless of whether you want to lift weights (as it happens – I do !) – anyone who follows this advice will feel better.
It’s just sensible. But Marc provides psychological and scientific backing for this common sense.
I think the chapter on gut health could usefully have less science and more emphasis on actual foods, rather than theoretical foods.
Overall – an excellent guide to eating well

Definitely aimed at beginners. Not worth the money. Some information in the book is just factually incorrect. Promoting clean eating is not helping anyone develop a healthy relationship with their diet either. Telling people to avoid fizzy drinks because it makes them fat is not correct. Considering this book is written by a nutritionist there is some misinformation in it. Talking about optimising hormones etc and sugar being poison is silly. Would not recommend this even to beginners tbh.

Great book! Simple and effective information which is easy to digest, handy for a upcoming/new PT (it’s similar information you will be sharing with your clients) or a gym goer who’s information is cloudy when it comes to nutrition.
Straight up information with no nitty gritty, it’s definitely cleared up a few things I wasn’t too sure about.

I gave this book 5 stars for a couple of reasons.

If you want an in depth book on nutrition that enhances your sporting abilities then this is the book for you. I’ve learn a lot from this book.
Huge tips on how to reduce your body fat and grow muscle.

This book is definitely worth the money and I will be recommending it to people in my gym,

I have read and tried most fashionable diets over the last 20 years. Marc shows obvious knowledge and experience of these as well as the science that informs them. This short book is a concise critique of the pros and cons of nutrition for strength training and good health including the use of supplements. Good sense told in a friendly supportive way. Highly recommended !

I like how straightforward the book is . After going to the gym since I was 17 I heard all the tricks and diets . I’m happy to see the I’m not crazy and other people think similar to me. If you haven’t read the book I recommend it strongly .

Three stars, and only because I think if you are a complete beginner then this might be quite useful, it glosses over a lot of the details. It’s a really poor quality book as well which annoyed me, no glossy photos and fancy formatting, it’s very basic.
