This is a brilliant resource for any teacher, whether you are just starting out, or have been teaching most of your life, this book will either reinforce what you are already doing and maybe give you some new hints and tips. If you are just starting out, this will provide you with some essential CPD, introducing you to strategies of differentiation and behaviour management that are truly inspired.
I got this for a PGCE students that I had been mentoring this academic year and they have already been in touch saying how informative it has been.

This is not a quick fix book. It’s definitely an investment. Honestly? I’m a little intimidated and wondering if it’s too much for me. If you’re really invested in yourself and your students I’d recommend it. It’s not what I thought it would be but it’s the road I am going down. I thought it would be more concise. Not to say there’s a lot of waffle, but there’s a lot of reading and reflection and participation and work. If you care about what you’re doing in the classroom then get it. If you’re not sure, then maybe start smaller. To me, this book is a commitment.

I was recommended this by a Teacher friend as something I should read before starting my PGCE, and boy was he right – this is FASCINATING and very helpful. If you’re considering training to be a teacher, this is a book you should definitely read. I did originally start listening to it on Audible, but decided to get the actual book too, firstly because I just like to have something with pages to look at, and also because you can’t make sense of all the diagrams with an audiobook. If you’re going to go for one or the other, if money’s an issue you can get the audiobook with 1 credit if you’re signed up to Audible; but otherwise, I’d go for the physical book every time.

Frustrating that the cover has come bent

If you want a succinct book, this is not for you.
I think this book could be 10 times shorter and probably make the same points required.

This book contains 63 different strategies, all with the aim to make every student do what they need to do to get the best possible outcomes.
If you look online, you can find thousands of strategies and ways to engage students; many of which compromise the teaching of a curriculum and promote low expectations of students.
This book doesn’t do that. It gives strategies to enable the teacher to teach a academically demanding course, whilst increasing student accountability so that every member of the classroom is thinking and learning.
It is to-the-point, concise and also gives you access to videos of the strategies being used in lesson.
A must have for new and experienced teachers.

Reading this has affirmed, reminded and refreshed my experiences of teaching. It’s quite simply brilliant. I highly recommend every teacher reads this book. Thank you.

This book is a must read for anyone in education. This isn’t the kind of book you’ll read over a week – instead, you’ll pause and think after each idea, reflecting on your own practice. Not every idea will work for everyone, but as a KS1 primary teacher, there are far more ideas that I want to try than those I don’t! Whatever stage you are in your career, it’s worth a read.
