I chose this book because my tutor advise the class it would be useful and she was right. This book highlights a lot of issues and concerns as a T.A. would come across. I personally advise to buy two books for a T.A. course and the other book is SUPPORTING TEACHING & LEARNING IN SCHOOLS by Ms L burnham, these two books would definitely get you through the course.

This book has really helped me give some lengthy answers to some of the questions as part of the ‘Support Teacher and Learning’ Level 2 course. However, it does not follow the OCR syllabus, therefore not all questions can be answered from using this book. It is a must as a second book only.

This book reliterates everything you already know but helps clarify that information and helps with completing the assignments. Easy to find what your looking for through index and very easy terminology used so no jargon to contend with!!

This book does what it sets out to do and very comprehensively. It does cover every aspect of the Teaching Assistant’s role at this level. As a reinforcement to what is learned and practiced under the guidance of a tutor I would recommend it, as a stand-alone introduction to the subject it lacks substance. As a criticism I would suggest that the author decides whether to use English punctuation or American and then stick to it.

The Teaching Assistant’s Handbook level 2 is a complete guide through the teaching assistant’s courses which are run across the country. However, I would suggest going to the course checking which books you need and then ordering one. I spent a lot of money ordering before the course, finding that I did not need the first book and then ordering again. Please check.

This book was recommended by the course tutor, and it covers ‘most’ things; I found not everything you needed to research was in the book, or information was a little sparse or grey, and often found myself going elsewhere for information, e.g. the internet or the library to borrow books.
I found the book Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools by Louise Burnham far easier to read, it has more clarity, plus I prefer the layout. I use this one far more than I do the one written by Teena Karmen. Its just a matter of choice.
