Teaching Rebooted uncovers the most important pieces of educational research on the science of learning, helping teachers to understand how we learn and retain information. Jon Tait explores strategies such as metacognition, interleaving, dual coding and retrieval practice, examining the evidence behind each approach and providing practical ideas to embed them in classroom practice.

This pick-up-and-go manual highlights some of the classroom fads that have come and gone to allow readers to reflect on their practice and decision-making. It offers practical tips to help teachers change what they are doing in the classroom straightaway, bridging the gap between academic research and day-to-day practice for teachers at any stage of their career. Written by an experienced senior leader responsible for teaching and learning, school improvement, professional development and educational research, this guide will help reboot teaching so it is both evidence informed and effective.

This is a wonderful book, particularly for senior leaders implementing whole school change. Each chapter sends you on a journey of discovery, busting a myriad of myths along the way. It will change the way we teach, learn and desing our curriculums. A must read.

Excellent book. I love the layout of this book: it has a section on retrieval practice, spacing, questioning etc. and within it section is the up to date research followed by activities and tips on how to apply these in the classroom. The research section also has ‘key takeaways’, represented by keys, from the research to make it even easier to understand and get the main points across. Very happy with it. Do not let the smallness (126 pages) put you off. Thank you.

This is the book I wish I had read when I started my teaching career 25 years ago !

Having lived, struggled and progressed through some of the challenges that Jon Tait identifies (I can particularly relate to the mini-evolution from acetates to powerpoint), this is an accessible way to digest the evidence-supported practice when teaching (in multiple environments, not just the classroom !).

It offers crystal clear advice, shines a light on the evidence around and should you follow it’s practical teaching ideas, you’ll become a beacon of teaching excellence !

It is a book I have already recommended to all of my colleagues who teach on a Sporting Excellence qualification.
