An enjoyable way to pass time on a journey. It has little tension or drama, just a sense of inevitability about it. The rest of the series? Not for me.

This story never really got started for me. I love the genre but I found it really difficult to connect with the characters and found Archie to be quite annoying. Perhaps the more I read from this author the more the story will grow on me but I’m not sure. It’s a nice starter mm story but I wanted more

Ya is generally not my first choice but I liked the sounds of this story so I thought why not and I wasn’t disappointed.
Landon wants more than anything to be a brilliant actor but he doesn’t want all that’s attached. He just wants to be a normal boy who can date who he wants and do what he wants without constantly being in the public eye. It’s bad enough he is messing up his current role and his family are miles away I’m Australia but when he meets Archie everything is turn on it axel.
Archie is a dancer and just because he likes dancing doesn’t mean he is gay. Everyone assumes he is. When he father starts putting pressure on him to get a normal job Archie has no one to turn to. Especially not his ever so prefect sister. He meets Landon just at the right time when he could really use a friend but should you have butterflies in your tummy for just a friend a guy friend at that.
It’s a typical angsty ya young gay man finding his way in the world it’s wrote really well and while it took some time to get into the story once I did I was hooked and it was a pleasure to read .

3.5 stars – I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
This is a cute coming of age romance. When we first meet Archie, he is a spoiled, miserable rich kid who somehow manages to resent spending his summer at a luxurious camp. Landon is a young actor filming a movie at the summer camp. He’s a long way from home and he’s lonely and homesick.
Landon is instantly likeable. Despite his film star status, his loneliness and his self doubt make him relatable. Archie is a more difficult character to like. His entitled apathy and his caustic observations at the start of the story are irritating. However, I love the way Archie grows into himself in this book. Events and interactions prompt self-reflection and genuine growth. Much of the book focuses on Archie growing up and figuring himself out. I found myself liking Archie as a person right about the time Archie starts to like himself.
While I enjoyed Archie and Landon’s story, I felt there was something missing in the romance between them. I feel like we are told about the connection or the chemistry between Archie and Landon but we never really see or feel it. I felt Archie’s personal growth and Landon’s newfound confidence but I didn’t really feel any passion in the connection between them.
This story fits somewhere between young adult and new adult writing. Archie is seventeen or eighteen and Landon is probably a few years older. But because of the summer camp setting – and Archie’s complicated relationship with his parents – this feels most like a teen romance. I didn’t love the summer camp setting – the kids feel too old to be campers rather than camp staff and the camp environment lacks the sense of joy and nostalgia that I usually love in YA summer camp stories. I found it odd that while the blurb makes Archie’s dancing seem like a huge part of the story, it is only mentioned a few times.

This was a fascinating look at two young guys who are trying to decide who they’ll be as fully fledged adults!!
The first guy Landon, is an actor. He’s confidently bisexual, he’s out to his family friends in Australia but because of his job he’s been warned to ‘play it straight’ if he wants more roles!! He comes across to everyone as calm, in control & full of confidence in himself & his acting abilities, he’s actually a mass of insecurities inside. He fears he can’t act at all & constantly feels homesick ????
Archie is a dancer, he’s completely straight & gets annoyed that people assume he’s gay just because he dances and it’s Ballet!! His Dad has sent him & his twin sister to this Camp to try & figure out a possible career path for himself after he fails to get into the Dance School of his choice. He’s quite introverted, full of self reflection & self doubt. He doesn’t connect with many people, not even his twin ????
Archie and Landon meeting is a huge jolt to Archie. Landon makes him feel things that he’s not used to. He sees that someone loves and misses his family in a way he doesn’t think he even could at the moment – they’re too disconnected. Plus Landon is famous, it gives him butterflies to talk to him, it’s scary, nerve wracking & exciting!!
Landon can see that Archie is twisted in knots over his feelings. He isn’t happy being who he is right now but Landon can’t force Archie to make the changes he thinks he needs to make to break away from his unhappiness, Their friendship is just too fragile. Landon being comfortably bisexual seems to terrify Archie. He acts as though he’d get ‘tarred with the same brush’ if they’re seen together. Landon refuses to go backwards in his sexuality though, it was hard enough coming ‘out’ the first time ????
The push & pull of friendship, attraction & fear between this pair is gripping!! It’s really well written & gives a thought provoking look at late teens dealing with their sexual attractions, feelings & what that will mean for them going forward – if anything. Although I did find the build up too extensive – it was still an insightful & compassionate read!! Recommended 13+

I discovered S.M. James through an author’s group i follow.
I hadn’t read a ya romance in a while, and i am glad i found this one.
It was sweet and beautiful. Very well written. The two main characters Archie and Landon felt real and I loved the character development.
This is for people who need a bit of sweetness as a coming out story.
Great read
