That Picture of You: A dramatic real-life story of adoption and reunion
£11.40
Few adoption memoirs can be as moving as this! That Picture Of You tells the story of Susan finding herself pregnant at the age of fifteen, and sent two hundred miles away to give birth in secret. When her baby is forcibly taken for adoption after just eight days, Susan grows to womanhood with no idea if her daughter is even. When she goes on tragically to suffer a miscarriage, a hospital counsellor encourages the playwright to set her grief out on the page. Half A Million Women is the result. But when the play is by pure coincidence performed on her long-lost daughter’s twenty-first birthday, no-one could possibly have imagined the real-life drama about to unfold off-stage. The remarkable real-life story made national headlines. That will come as no surprise when you read the dramatic events of the heart-wrenching reunion of mother and daughter. A truly dramatic story capturing spirit of time and place, this deeply moving and warmly funny book is ultimately, above all, joyful.

That Picture of You: A dramatic real-life story of adoption and reunion
This true story is written with humour and pathos and depicts a true picture of growing up in a poor South Wales mining community. It portrays movingly the anguish of having a baby removed, without any thought of the mother and baby and the repercussions on the already broken family life. Wonderful writing

Excellent read, brought back loads of memories.

I bought this book following a recommendation. It is a very moving account of a young girl growing up in a family where open, emotional honesty is in short supply. It gives courageous insight into the effect that this has during our most vulnerable years. Heart wrenching for any woman who has traded her body for the hope of love and felt the consequences. Heart breaking to read the complete lack of emotional insight by the authorities. Ultimately heart warming in terms of triumph of belief and determination for a better way and a story that comes full circle. A thoroughly readable book.

A wonderful book to read from a local writer largely about her early life in our small S. Wales mining town. 10/10

I could not put this book down from start to finish, made me laugh and cry, and a very true depiction of life in the South Wales valleys in the 1950’s and 60’s. Written by a very talented author who has known more than her fair share of heartache, a book definitely not to be missed.
