I didn’t have anything to compare it to but found the sections breaking down all of the different components really helpful.

The ‘Anxiety Toolkit for Teens’ is a self-help workbook that empowers teenagers to not only learn more about anxiety but learn strategies in how to manage this. With this in mind, this workbook can also be helpful to the teens’ support system around them (e.g. parents, caregivers etc).
What I really love about this workbook is that it cuts the psychological jargon and instead normalises the experience of anxiety and teaches young people why the symptoms of anxiety is occuring in an accessible manner (please see photo) – most of the young people I work with tell me they have ‘anxiety’ as they have been labelled by others but actually have little understanding as to what this is!
I will definitely be recommending this workbook to the students/families I support and my colleagues!

Reviewer works as an Educational Mental Health Practitioner.

I would avoid this book. I work with young people and this book uses to medical and diagnostic terminology around anxiety disorders to a massively unhelpful extent. It will alarm and probably upset some readers, particularly those whose anxiety will already make them feel unusual but who are not yet in the clutches of clinical psychologists or psychiatrists desperate to diagnose or over-medicate. Many of the ‘techniques’ are not practical nor accessible – for example a one-page summary of ‘semantic satiation’ as a tool for dealing with ‘irrational thoughts’ (what ‘teen’ relates to that?). I have no idea who this author is nor what they do, but they clearly have no idea about teenagers, subscribe to a rigid, medicalised concept of anxiety and seemingly want to prove how clever they are by presenting a hotch-potch of therapeutic techniques in an ill-informed and inaccessible way. I hated it, think the kids I know will hate it and have pulped my copy accordingly. You have been warned.

I really enjoyed this book and taking out helpful tips to deal with anxiety. There are so many tips that something is surely going to benefit you in this book. There are great explanations too. It’s easy to access and pull info out and very readable. Really enjoyed this. Also good for adults not just teens. Awesome.

I (recently) discovered Teen Thrive books. Since then I have bought few and recommended to my friends. Probably why I like them so much is the fact that I can read them myself and give them directly to my teenager to read and do all countless exercises on her own. And this definitely is one of that kind of books. All the books I have read about psychology usually go in great and interesting detail about how our brains work etc., but the actual tool and action part is lacking or is not clearly defined and you need to make your own lists and notes, these teenage oriented books do that for you, so very user friendly. I added table of contents and some sample pages to understand the style of book.
Keep making this style books and I’m going to be a permanent customer!

What I liked about this book for teens is that it acknowledges how common feelings of anxiety are and it teaches how to live with anxiety without it taking control of your life. Nearly one in three teens experience anxiety. This book gives a helpful context to the reasons why we experience anxiety describing the Fight, Flight, Freeze reactions and why they developed as a means of keeping safe. Understanding this helps to normalise these feelings. The book also offers many different techniques and strategies from cognitive behaviour therapy, CBT; dialectical behaviour therapy, DBT; and acceptance- commitment therapy, ACT; which can be learnt and used to make anxiety help you in enjoying your life.
One of the things I love about this book is how useful it can be to every teen — even
if you don’t have a diagnosis of an anxiety disorder. If you think anxiety is a sign there is something wrong with you, the explanations of anxiety in this book will show you just how normal and common, and necessary, anxiety is in our lives. If you don’t think there’s anything that can be done, it provides instructions for many different tools that have been proven to help manage anxiety and are easy to try.
