The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake is the runaway TikTok sensation – a must-read fantasy novel with gorgeous illustrations. If you loved Ninth House and A Deadly Education, you’ll love this.
Secrets. Betrayal. Seduction.
Welcome to the Alexandrian Society.
When the world’s best magicians are offered an extraordinary opportunity, saying yes is easy. Each could join the secretive Alexandrian Society, whose custodians guard lost knowledge from ancient civilizations. Their members enjoy a lifetime of power and prestige. Yet each decade, only six practitioners are invited – to fill five places.
Contenders Libby Rhodes and Nico de Varona are inseparable enemies, cosmologists who can control matter with their minds. Parisa Kamali is a telepath, who sees the mind’s deepest secrets. Reina Mori is a naturalist who can perceive and understand the flow of life itself. And Callum Nova is an empath, who can manipulate the desires of others. Finally there’s Tristan Caine, whose powers mystify even himself.
Following recruitment by the mysterious Atlas Blakely, they travel to the Society’s London headquarters. Here, each must study and innovate within esoteric subject areas. And if they can prove themselves, over the course of a year, they’ll survive. Most of them.
‘As much a delicious contest of wit, will, and passion as it is of magic, this book is half mystery, half puzzle, and wholly a delight’ – Holly Black, author of The Cruel Prince
The story continues in The Atlas Paradox, the heart-stopping sequel.
Reader reviews:

The mixed reviews worried me… it really is a bit pretentious with the writing style and can leave you feeling a little… stupid? But overall I love the character driven story, the build up and the final plot twist. Some of the character chapters were more interesting than the others but I can’t say I hated any of them????
Now just awaiting my copy of The Atlas Paradox????

I enjoyed this a lot. I think I was lucky because I just did not get the big plot twist at the end and so it was a complete surprise. Lots of words. Well written and manly about the relationship between well developed characters. Looking forward to the next one.

One of the kids wanted this so we bought it for them. They read it and said it was good so we didn’t waste money. No spoilers.

I was so looking forward to reading this book, I even bought exclusive limited editions thinking how fabulous the book would be but I was so disappointed. Every single page I read mentioned one name over and over again, sometimes multiple times on one page that after 30 pages I gave up. I don’t know if it was for filler or the author didn’t realise but it drove me to the point where I couldn’t even read it any more. I get we need to know the characters etc but come on multiple times on one tiny page is ridiculous. I had such high hopes but it frustrated me that much I couldn’t continue. I’ve left this on my dnf pile and sold all the copies own.

This book lays heavily the foundations to a fantastic series. A lot of the book is spent developing the world, the characters and only the final part seems to reveal a true plot.
However, this doesn’t mean to say it’s not good, it simply sets you up for the next book and makes you want to dive into it head first. You learn about the initiates in the society who are all unique and extraordinary in their own way. We learn their past, their secrets and the secrets of others that eventually all start making sense and it pulls you deeper and deeper in.
Diving head first into the second book only seems natural at this point, as it seems to be the place where the plot truly takes form. Four stars was given because I loved the character development and I found myself pulled into the book deeply from the start, however a little more plot would have been good.

I thought this was going to be one of those books that even though I can understand why it’s so praised that I’d not like it because I assumed it was going to be a hard read.
But this wasn’t like that! Yes there’s a lot of details / scientific explanations in the book but it’s not overwhelming and I just couldn’t put it down.
I wanted to know what was going to happen! Actually I NEEDED to know wtf was happening in the society.

This isn’t a Romance but there are a few interactions (a little spice scene here and there & not too descriptive) a little bit of tension between certain characters
There’s magic, there’s friendships, there’s betrayal & twists I didn’t see coming I can’t wait to dive into book 2

Slow to start but enjoyed the second half. Not sure I am invested enough for book 2 but I can see the appeal.
