Colouring books have become increasingly popular. This is one of the best I have seen. Detail is not over elaborate – often the case – yet still offers an imaginative challenge. The illustrations are equally suitable for adults and older children.

With a new Disney film out, “Beauty and the Beast,” is sure to be popular the moment. This uses quotes from the traditional fairy story and pictures based on the artwork of Walter Crane, whose edition of “Beauty and the Beast,” was published in 1874. This is a very intricate book and is for older children (probably 9-11 is about the intended age group). There is lots to explore, with lots and lots of pictures and patterns to colour, as well as information on the story – such as the inspiration behind it.
Crane was parts of the Arts and Crafts Movement and so, interestingly, many of the pictures to colour are reminiscent of wallpaper designs, murals or furniture/shoe designs. Still, there are plenty of pictures featuring Beauty, the Beast and the Prince. A beautifully designed book, which will take my daughter ages to colour, has good quality paper and will engage your child and possibly encourage them to read the original story.

More a children’s book and the pictures are shaded quite dark, the pictures were more of beauty and the beast but no other was expecting more but good for kids.

This is a beautiful book. I bought this as I love the story of beauty and the beast. I’ve coloured one picture already. Love it and would make a fab present for anyone who loves colouring
