A beautiful book, well produced and wonderful content. But if you want to know the melodies you’ll need to go elsewhere

Actually quite disappointed in this book which I pre-ordered before there was a chance to look inside. Whilst it is nicely presented it only contains the lyrics to the shantie; to me a book of shanties suggests words and music. The brief descriptions are interesting but hardly exhaustive and the inclusion of a couple of new songs is fine, but again, are they any use without notation to learn them from?

I loved this book. I found it a very informative history and explanation of some shanties. I asked for this for Christmas as I had a dream about a sailor singing a shanty and it made me want to find out more. I do not understand why some people are complaining about the lack of music – the description and blurb do not state that music is included? Well worth a read in my opinion, especially if folk music or life on the sea is your interest

No music – just words, and a background to each shanty. Used it to sing shanties at an open mic night – using music books and videos to learn the tunes.

A great little, well written book. Very informative, unfortunately… NO MUSIC

Loved this book, with both the text of the shanties, followed by a history of their origins. The drawings are exquisite!
