The enormity of climate change and biodiversity loss can leave us feeling overwhelmed. How can an individual ever make a difference?
Isabella Tree and Charlie Burrell know firsthand how spectacularly nature can bounce back if you give it the chance. And what comes is not just wildlife in super-abundance, but solutions to the other environmental crises we face.
The Book of Wilding is a handbook for how we can all help restore nature. It is ambitious, visionary and pragmatic. The book has grown out of Isabella and Charlie’s mission to help rewild Britain, Europe and the rest of the world by sharing knowledge from their pioneering project at Knepp in Sussex. It is inspired by the requests they receive from people wanting to learn how to rewild everything from unprofitable farms, landed estates and rivers, to ponds, allotments, churchyards, urban parks, gardens, window boxes and public spaces.. The Book of Wilding has the answers.

This highlights the emphasis of the change in agriculture that needs to take place and offers up guidance and advice as to how to achieve it.

I’ve only had this bulky book for a couple of days but I’m thoroughly hooked. It addresses what wilders can do from the scale of a window box right up to a country estate and larger (if landowners band together to undertake rewilding). It also addresses the business of wilding and how those considering it can make it a financially viable lifestyle and livelihood choice.
Set to become the definitive handbook for nature recovery.

The most practical guide to wilding or restoring nature that I have read and a great contrast to the endless and pointless academic debates about what re- wilding means.

This book makes you think. It makes you realise the obvious which had never occurred to you. It is written in a beautiful, engaging and simply captivating style which holds you attention in a way few books can. The concepts here are remarkable, thought provoking and equally balanced between a shot of fear and a call to arms. I have a rural background and there is so much here that is challenging me. Whatever your relationship is with the countryside or the environment, read this book.

If the environment, ecology, farming or food are of interest to you, then you should read this book. It tackles subjects of global importance in an engaging, non-judgemental and even tender manner. Don’t be put off by the fact that this is a manual of sorts. It doesn’t make it any the less of of a page-turner. For those of us in the UK, reading this will mean you never see our green and pleasant land in the same way again.

this book is really for an individual or group looking to rewild a large area and is excellent on that score. for the genuinely interested read ‘Wilding’ by Isabella Tree. much more easily digested and understood. But both books brilliant. it’s the way forward to save the/our enviroment. Tk
