I am an Occupational Therapist – new to the field of brain injury/ neuro rehabilitation and I found this book very helpful for myself and my patients. It has been useful and applicable for all members of our team (Clinical Psychologists, Speech and Language therapists, and rehabilitation assistants).

Very helpful book full of practical strategies and a good amount of the theory behind their use. A very useful addition to the bookshelf and has been used in practice many times since purchase. Some areas are a little repetitive of past works, but this is to be somewhat expected given the wealth of Wilson publications that come before it.

I was afraid of one thing when I heard about this book while it was being written and it’s intended aims and audience – that in being a guidebook for those needing to first explore the terrain people travel as a result of brain injury and enabling them in turn to be guides with their own clients, the terrain would be oversimplified, a sketch rather than a map, that the rehabilitation journey would be like asking a Glaswegian for directions, it sounds simple but you get lost. The authors must have known a Glaswegian worth their malt will take you with them! For that is what they do, they take you on the expedition that is rehabilitation at it’s best and point out the peaks and troughs, the caves you can get lost in. I woiuld have liked to delve a bit deeper into identity and adjustment but as my father would say, ‘that’s a trip for another day, we’ve made a good start”. The most complex and challenging clients will continue to need the guides who have written this book. But after reading this it is hard to imagine getting lost and clients and their families should be well guided. I particularly liked the sharing of materials used by the authors.
