‘A brilliant and hilarious book which defends blokes without denigrating women’ – Konstantin Kisin
If you see a man drinking a pint in an airport pub alone, that’s a bloke.
If you see a man driving to the tip on a Saturday morning with a smile on his face, that’s a bloke.
And if you see a man heading back from the tip and on the way to the pub, that’s a very happy bloke.
The British Bloke appears simple and straightforward. He loves football, cricket, beer, sheds, wearing socks and books about the SAS.
But beneath that simple exterior lies a mysterious and complex being.
In The British Bloke Decoded, writer, comedian and regular bloke, Geoff Norcott peels back the layers of blokedom, revealing the truth behind the sometimes inexplicable behaviour of Britain’s husbands, dads and brothers.
Based on 46 years of field research and almost scientific insights, Geoff digs deep into subjects as wide as: the value of Banter, the surprising roots of Mansplaining, the near impossibility of getting blokes to send birthday cards, and whether there could be a medal system for Hoovering.
And ultimately, he concludes that whilst the toxic men have been grabbing all the publicity – perhaps now’s the time to celebrate the simple British bloke in all his eccentric splendour.

Another reviewer tried to put this one down with the brilliantly irrelevant review “if you are a right wing royalist Sun reader, this is for you.”
I imagine there are possibly a couple of million of those so his review might not have the desired effect!
In any event this gay bloke can recommend this one to royalists and republicans alike!

The British Bloke Decoded is a hilarious masterpiece that delves into the quirks of British blokedom. Not only did it have me in stitches, but it also granted me insights into my own blokish tendencies. Ever wondered about that innate aversion to sunscreen or why we make seemingly nonsensical decisions? Geoff’s got you covered.
I’ve tried using this book as a guide to explain my ways to my wife – though, amusingly, she’s still puzzled over my inability to remember family birthdays. (Maybe that’s a universal bloke trait?)
The writing is sharp, witty, and so very Norcott. This book is not just for laughs; it’s a testament to Geoff’s prowess as a comedian and writer. For those searching for the ultimate Christmas gift, this is a jackpot for your dad, grandad, or any comically endearing men in your life. A delightful read and a hearty recommendation for all fans of top-tier comedy!”

My mum always told me I was her special man, turns out I’m just the average British bloke. Ah well, I suppose I’m in good company.
I read the book and also listened to the audiobook while out walking the dog. Both are great and the audiobook features a few bonus chapters too.
An easy read with lots of short chapters that don’t tax the brain but go down rather like a nice pint.

A really enjoyable and amusing read by Geoff Norcott. Hitting some pretty good nails on the head, I think I enjoyed it as much as anyone giving it 5 stars in the reviews so far. But is it up there with Catch 22, LOTR, To Kill a Mockingbird, its not, so, sorry Geoff that’s the only reason its got 4 stars, I would have gone to 4.5 if available. But if ratings are to mean anything, should not the top rating be reserved for the truly exceptional, rather than the very good.

Just this week Geoff Norcott demonstrated why he is the best man to speak about being a bloke. He demonstrated stability under pressure, he’s dependable and very calm while all around him went just a little bit mental; people actually lost their jobs because of that interview, while Geoff just raised an eyebrow and sucked it down even though clearly rattled got on with it. He is a Top bloke and this is funny look at being one.
As I say the book is funny, but also a little scary because it holds a mirror up to the truths of being a bloke. We don’t do as much housework, we do some, very well I might add, and we do want a medal. (Not yet got mine, 35 years Geoff, 35 long years). We are crap at going to the doctors, but to be fair Geoff I struggle to keep calm like you especially when dealing with the GP front-desk Stasi, but with each chapter I chuckled and my wife asked what now and I would read it to her and she would go, yep, he is right!
You do love your sport Geoff especially, football, cricket, darts… darts? OK, I will let that slide, for now. I was just pleased to see a rugby analogy on page 144 especially as I am reading this during RWC2023.
Relationship stuff is spot on especially with fathers and sons, something I can tell from the book you are really making sure you get right with your son.
This is a great book, its fun, but as I said above it does hold up a mirror a bit, which is OK, because now I don’t feel so bad just being and ordinary bloke.
Looking forward to seeing you in Crawley next year.

I’m enjoying Geoff’s second book so much I already have feelings of melancholy and I’m only two-thirds of the way through. I have to limit the chapters per day so I can luxuriate in each one, to pad it out as long as possible.
Some much of his explanation of why bloke act as they do rings so true with me it’s giving me tinnitus, ‘patient zero’ basic bloke.
My favourite quote today is: “[a bloke’s] friendship portfolio is like print media: in a constant state of managed decline.”
The book has funny and honest soundbites like this in all it’s fifty-odd chapters.
Touché Geoff.

Geoff is a bludy brilliant bloke. Love his humour, his integrity, honesty and insight. Should be on the curriculum and on the table of every marriage guidance office! This book does through humour what all those dreadful self help books on understanding male foibles fail to do. You will recognise, nod at and chuckle gleefully to every chapter. Thanks!

This is a great read for any woman who has a bloke in her life and struggles to understand his innate behaviours. You will come to recognise and appreciate the positives of this uniquely British male type and find yourself endeared to their dependability and predictable patterns. Geoff, with his usual, clever humour, breaks down the potentially evolutionary and social reasons for Blokeish behaviour, whether this be the love of a pint, their emotional reserve or why they like the less complicated company of men.
