I bought the first Thursday Murder Club book for my husband at Christmas a few years ago not because he likes a who done it but because, like Richard Osman, he is a devoted Fulham supporter. He enjoyed it so much he read the whole series …thus far. I used to love reading but haven’t read much for a while for one reason or another and happened to see the books lying around. I find reading hardbacks difficult nowadays but I downloaded the sample of the first Thursday Murder Club on to kindle and am now hooked. It has that off beat sense of humour which (that?) appeals to me and I love the beautiful characters including Alan the over friendly dog. It is also full of pathos, drama as well and suspended belief intersperse with the sad and happy realities of life which (that) we can all relate to. And it’s the first book I have ever read in common with my husband after so many years…

I loved the Thursday Murder Club, and the Man Who Died Twice was even better. This third outing was enjoyable, but didn’t quite enthrall me like the previous ones. A very subjective observation, and I wouldn’t go so far as to say ‘this is the book Richard was contractually obliged to produce’. (A fate which befalls many established authors). I have bought (but not yet read) The Last Devil to Die. Hoping the unhurried, genuine affection for the subject is recaptured. If so, I shall re read The Bullet That Missed, in the hope that it was my head in the wrong place, the first time.

3rd in the series and they are all excellent. Great characters, lots of action and very funny

Loved the plot but everything was almost too easy for the four protagonists. Joyce as always comes up with some gems which made me laugh out loud. It’s extraordinary what you can get up to in a retirement village….! Still some unresolved questions so looking forward to reading the next one.

The Thursday Murder Club have taken an interest in a new case – the disappearance, a decade ago, of a woman who it is assumed was murdered. Before they can investigate, however, Elizabeth has a problem of her own to attend to when she, along with her husband, are abducted and given a task: murder someone from her past or Joyce will suffer the same fate.

This is the third book in the series and is probably my favourite so far. Author Richard Osman has created and developed genuinely likeable characters who are growing in strength with each book. It is great to see the leading characters of a crime book all being ‘of a certain age’ as their past experiences provide a great backdrop to what has become a must-read set of books.

In The Bullet That Missed, we have murders, abductions, prisons and spies in a story that is told with great humour, providing numerous laugh out loud moments. Ron, in particular, comes to the fore in this book, a new relationship helping us to see another side of him.

I really enjoyed the plot in The Bullet that Missed and felt that this was the best yet. I am looking forward to seeing what our elderly detectives bring us in book 4.

Yay for being back at Cooper’s Chase for a slug of red and a slab of lemon drizzle with the Thursday Murder Club. Who needs DIs and PIs to crack crime when you’ve got cardie-clad Joyce, sharp-suited Ibrahim, rough-and-ready Ron and the enigma that is Elizabeth poring over cold cases in the Jigsaw Room?
This time round it’s the murder of investigative journalist and news presenter Bethany Waites. To solve the mystery the gang go behind-the-scenes of regional TV, encounter an ex KGB agent and a very tall, bearded Viking (sound familiar?) and get embroiled in the intricacies of money-laundering and cyber currency.
There are lots of new characters who are as entertaining and believable as the familiar supporting cast whose circumstances and relationships continue to evolve in touching, amusing and beguiling ways.
The Bullet that Missed is another masterstroke with a clever plot and lots of laughs along the way.
Richard Osman’s quaint and quirky quartet of seniors have become so real and endearing that they are practically national treasures whilst their antics, adventures and joie de vivre promote positivity in ageing.
Satisfying and heart-warming, this book kept me smiling and guessing.
    Can’t wait for next one!
