Claire, an ordinary schoolgirl, learns she’s descended from twelfth-century knights. The catch? They’re alive, and they need her help.
Claire and Ben are ordinary schoolchildren, their lives predictable until the day everything changes – forever. Claire finds a mysterious letter beckoning her to a peculiar destination – alone. Her sister is in danger. She must take Jack the dog and not tell anyone, even Ben.
Little does Claire know she’s stepping into a world of ancient legends, guided by twelfth-century knights who ordinarily should be long dead. Knights who wear trainers, pilot planes, perform martial arts and manipulate time, yet they need Claire’s help.
Crawling through tunnels, scaling treacherous mountains, combating evil and betrayal, Claire must face her deepest fears and discover her remarkable hidden talents. In this new world of spies, lies, premonitions and magic, who can Claire trust?
As the quest to protect a powerfully dangerous artefact unfolds, Claire learns how much is at stake. If she fails, the devastating consequences are too unbearable to consider…

There are a number of resources available to develop vocabulary that are directly targeted at the 11+ market. This one is different in that the books in this Cadwaladr series are original. It is important that students have access to a variety of resources when preparing for the comprehension and verbal reasoning elements of the tests and this resource adds to that variety.
The vocabulary that is highlighted for interrogation and understanding is varied. Some words will be known already whilst others will definitely be challenging. The story is engaging and suitable for the targeted age group and is more in line with contemporary fiction for pre-teens rather than the traditional texts often found in practice materials.
The fact that this is a novel in its own right is good. It is important for students to learn vocabulary in context and not in isolation. This book certainly does that. Using the Kindle version has many benefits since unknown words can be identified immediately along with their definitions / synonyms / antonyms. In the paper version, it would be necessary to interrupt the flow of the story for a greater length of time whilst looking up the words.
If I could make one criticism it would be that there can be too many words highlighted for interrogation and this in itself can curtail the flow of the story. Other than that my students are enjoying their foray into Claire’s adventures.
